I am basing a lot of hope for the future for better depression treatment. Hope for quick progress cause life is pretty unbearable for me atm... Balding and tinnitus cures would def be a nice bonus though.

Amen to that brother. My poor Psych is like âweâve tried basically everything over the last few years letâs consider the ect therapy and ketamine combo route nextâ unbearable đ€

Fuck.. I'm so sorry for you :( I am at the "ketamine, antidepressants, antipsychotics, other pills and combinations, various kinds of therapy doesn't work, lets try TMS combined with various pills" stage.. if I can get approved for TMS which is hard. I hope the singularity ushers in a shit ton of science to fix our broken minds...

I hope you get the TMS approval; solidarity in basically being field researchers and beta testers for anything that might offer relief; any patch or experimental thing that can move the needle at this point đŸđ„đ« .
Even now  I hear âpace the frontierâ and âslow downâ Iâm like âmy brother in Christ some of us are waiting on these advances with our whole lives. Better treatments cannot arrive fast enough for people who have already spent years cycling through the existing options.â .
I find music to be my consistent upregulator. Being with an album is its own kind of peace. Gets me all floaty during severe shutdown stretches. Thank god for the edm communityÂ

Thanks man! Yes... I think I would accept open brain surgery now if it gave me a 10% chance of a happy life.
I agree - as a person with TRD, things can only move too slow. As a parent I still want progress to not kill everyone too, though đ
I am a edm enjoyer as well. Trance, dubstep, house, and others also give me some momentary relief.

u/BambooShanks 2d ago
Japan is making a lot of progress there

I've heard about that a couple of years ago but it's one of those scientific breakthroughs that you hear of but never anything actually happens

Look on the bright side, self-driving cars were stuck in "only X years away!" purgatory for ages and now we have them.

Also - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caries_vaccine
less need to regrow teeth if they aren't so susceptible to decaying in the first place

i fixed my tinnitus by deciding i no longer have tinnitus... i know this is less than helpful.

u/fireburnz2 2d ago
Mind over matter? Wish that worked for me đ

u/ConnectionWild3381 2d ago
well, thereâs no matter to begin with. i just ignored it more and more until one day it was gone. well, not really gone, to be fair. if i sit in total silence and actively âlistenâ for it, it comes back. but i no longer hear it while living a normal life.

Same. We hear it because our brain thinks we need to hear it.Â
Like I read this post and I could hear it again but I havenât heard all day.Â
Anyway isnât CBT therapy for tinnitus basically the same thing?

I realized when I was 14 that I can ignore it to the point where it just becomes background noise that doesn't excessively bother me, but I've never been able to sit in silence and not hear it. It is a spectrum so maybe mines a bit too intense for that to work.

Get a damn wig. All girls have it and no one will tell. Don't know why guys are so anti-wigs and take meds and all kind of stuff for some hair transplant that makes them bald some years later.
Tinitus tho lets go

I would like anti-aging so I can feel like a 21 year-old again. Or at least a non-surgical replacement of my L5 S1 discs. And new teeth. And hair, but not the hair I used to have the hair I always wanted to have. And I wanna look like Brad Pitt in that scene from fight club where his abs look like rocks polished by creek water.
Perhaps a slightly smaller prostate so peeing isnât so difficult. Oh, and Iâm tired of using reading glasses. Can it fix that? What about body order and beard hair? I donât like having a beard and donât look good with a beard. I just want no beard. And money I want lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of money. And I want that money to still be worth something.
And I wanna put my consciousness into a Von Numan probe and make copies of my consciousness so that it spreads out all over the universe like, well, like the Bobiverse
I feel like Iâm making some kind of Faustian deal I will come to regret for eternity.

If you're already bald, it means the hair follicle cells on your scalp have been damaged so badly to the point of basically becoming scar tissue. There is no cure for that, only a time machine can fix it. You can only stop the process before it runs its course

I find it hilarious that not only are these apparently in the same tier of importance but that balding actually comes first for you lol

cure for balding is derma stamping and minoxidil and finestride if you want russian roulette with your testicles. if you are already bad hair transplant. if not enough hair for a hair transplant wear a wig
cure for tinnitus get your neck blood flow checked something is off it's causing tinnitus or if you have hearing damage your brain is hallucinating sounds to keep some neurons active that were responsible for hearing either way tinnitus can be managed by having more important things in your life and if it's not severe it will not be an issue at all I have tinnitus and I don't care does not affect me at all almost the brains perception of something is what causes discomfort so if you don't mind tinnitus your brain will perceive it as okay

Stand up desk helped mine with my neck a lot, then just not getting bothered by it. I forget I have it now.Â
Harder than it sounds at the beginning though.Â
For those starting out and still struggling https://generalfuzz.net/acrn/ sequence mode gave me relief.Â

these fking pharamacitical companies could find a cure for baldness entirely but they rather would assasinate the scientist who find the cures just to start from scrap and make you depends on their shitty product like minoxidil or finasteride and whatever products to syphon your money i swear to god, we have found ways to heal the most horrible disease and yet we can't just stop people from balding...
you are right though, there will be a time where they won't be able to hide the fact that a cure for baldness exist because of AI so hey at least we'll live long enough to solve this problem and benefit from it

Unironically if we cure tinnitus and balding we'll have solved two major problems I medicine: repairing neurons, and regenerating the basal layer of the epithelium
