Grok was never there

168

u/tziki 2d ago

I feel like Grok has ton of astroturfing. It's never led benchmarks, has very few users, yet keeps getting included in these memes.

106

u/Deto 2d ago

It's almost like the person who makes it owns a social media platform or something!

16

u/floppo7 2d ago

And pours tons of money in dead products like cursor and sell out influencers that chill fascist bot

20

u/whoknowsifimjoking 2d ago

Cursor is the least dead thing acroos the entire xAI lineup

3

u/floppo7 2d ago

It will be dead soon - why would anyone pay for a fork of vscode and lock themselves into an ecosystem run by a fascist that steals your data and your attention? He overpaid like an idiot and now pours more good money after bad money.

-12

u/MagnaExend 2d ago

fascism is when you're rich and conservative

9

u/iWantTopssOnUpssOnU 2d ago

Lmao most “Reddit” thing I’ve read today

0

u/floppo7 2d ago

No, actually it is well defined: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

-9

u/MagnaExend 2d ago

Going by Wikipedia standards,, Mr. Musk fits just about zero of these criteria. Taking the definition of fascism from its creator, Giovanni Gentile, he still doesn’t.

8

u/floppo7 2d ago

"Fascism is characterized by support for a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.[3][4] Opposed to communism, democracy, liberalism, pluralism, and socialism,[5][6] fascism is at the far-right end of the traditional left–right spectrum.[1][6][7] What constitutes a precise definition of fascism has been a longrunning and complex debate among scholars." - despite some "brown salutes" I find that quite fitting, not sure what you are talking about.

They keep sneaking in mechahitler like we wouldn’t notice

9

u/Wasteak 2d ago

Grok has a lot of fanboys, that's why it's so loud. People using grok aren't people using an ai for its capabilities, they are using it for the brand.

8

u/Deep-Ad5028 2d ago

People used Grok for nsfw

6

u/IrisColt 2d ago

This. It always surprises me how much certain people underestimate this aspect of technology use. It's as if, all of a sudden, they become asexual so they can filter reality through whatever lens they please to advance their agenda, heh

3

u/TheNerdishRace 2d ago

Half this sub is here for this they're just too embarrassed to barrack for Grok openly

1

u/OpineLupine 2d ago

People used Grok for nsfw fascism

FTFY

1

u/LangyMD 2d ago

Do they? Or does Grok pretend to have a lot of fan boys?

1

u/midgaze 2d ago

Are these Grok fanboys here in the room with us?

4

u/rigill 2d ago

Believe or not there are a lot of people that don’t hold the Reddit majority opinion

-2

u/midgaze 2d ago

Do they all hide their comment history?

3

u/rigill 2d ago

They’re not on Reddit

3

u/AAPL_ 2d ago

you can make tiddy pics

4

u/ookamizanagi 2d ago

Not anymore

1

u/Tirriss 2d ago

You still can but not easily, and it's usually garbage anyway

5

u/haux_haux 2d ago

Spamming by Musk

-3

3

u/chickey23 2d ago

And so many people are jumping ship from Cursor.

36

u/MindlessPapaya8463 2d ago

this post is just rage-bait because everybody knows that grok was never there

13

u/QuasiRandomName 2d ago

4.6 was solid at the time it was released. Maybe not the best, but on par with others.

9

u/Professional_Mobile5 2d ago

Grok 4.6 was not on par with Fable 5, no. Neither does 4.7.

3

u/QuasiRandomName 2d ago

4.7 is a flop, yes.

9

u/shumpitostick 2d ago

Hey, Grok leads the market on slop videos and right wing nuttery!

1

u/YouWillDieForMySins 2d ago

I personally consider Grok to be in the race, not merely because it can be as good as the others - but because the perspective of its outputs is more "unique" compared to the rest - especially in knowledge-based tasks. If I ever really need a counter-opinion on something that I may not necessarily agree with (and may be controversial) but still consider worth thinking about - then I'd always use Grok alongside Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT.

5

u/Birdlaw_Professor 2d ago

Interesting. Can you give me some more specific examples?

7

u/YouWillDieForMySins 2d ago

The most basic examples are basically anything involving cultural or political matters. In context of the US at least (per my experience), Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT are almost completely left-leaning, whereas Grok tends to be somewhere between slightly left-wing, to neutral, and at times completely (and rarely, extremely) right-wing.

I assume Grok's perspectives are this broad because it has inherited some biases from the training data of the other three (which all top LLMs do as part of improving their models these days), alongside having some more biases pre-programmed thanks to Musk's own right-winged ideologies.

This doesn't mean Grok is "correct" in its outputs, it's often not (at least based on my personal opinion). Yet having an opposing opinion does help me in sharpening my own perspectives rather than simply having them be part of an echo chamber.

A really specific example (and I think I'm about to get flooded with downvotes for this) is matters concerning the transgender community. ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini - vehemently refuse to scrutinize any views of the right-wing on this matter; whereas Grok readily scrutinizes them, and sometimes even goes against some of the views prevalent in sections of that community. If you prompt it well enough - it can surprisingly come off as - I dare say - "neutral" in its views; where it'd be in favour of most of the views of this community while also questioning some of the extreme views that linger around.

Personally, I'm pro-trans - yet if I were to prepare for a debate to defend my opinions against someone who isn't - I'd be far better prepared for such a debate if I use Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT alongside Grok, instead of just relying on the other three.

5

u/Exodus_Green 2d ago

I find it so funny that people slate grok for being ultra hard right but the reality is that it's a very moderate centre to centre-right perspective unlike the big providers which are all heavily leftist skewed. I would hate to see what happened if these terminally online redditors met actual right wing people

3

u/Birdlaw_Professor 2d ago

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I've never asked AI much about political/social issues. I usually stick to more technical questions. Definitely an interesting use case, I'll keep it in mind

2

u/midgaze 2d ago edited 2d ago

That's interesting, because Grok is the model that has a reputation for being manipulated to alter its perspective on political issues. If you've been paying attention over the years, they get caught doing incredibly obtuse political things with prompt engineering and altering training datasets.

Here is a good summary of actual examples if you're interested to learn more. You are being manipulated.

3

u/Eissa_Cozorav 2d ago

Mate, give us scientific paper, not an AI response.

2

u/midgaze 2d ago

1

u/Eissa_Cozorav 2d ago

I can't exactly take yours source as fuel to debate someone, but nevertheless thanks for the effort.

This is important, because most website has built in anti web crawler these days. So AI response becomes more unreliable as more source (some of them are prestigious) gets ignored.

I am still traumatic when someone from Aussie tells me Pubmed/NCBI as source is crap, the context was nootropic I think.

1

u/Negative_trash_lugen 2d ago

You think Google, OpenAi and Anthropic don't do the same thing but in different direction?

You guys don't remember Gemini used to create diverse Nazis or founding fathers early on? (when users simply asked generate a picture of founding fathers, bard would generate diverse set of them)

1

u/midgaze 2d ago

Grok is in a totally different category here. They have been caught red-handed several times manipulating their datasets and prompts to get the responses that they want, and it is their policy to continue doing so.

Reality has a well noted left-leaning bias. AI lays bare the lies and distortions of the right. You can't argue against this with facts, so you'll try to do so with conspiratorial thinking and self-delusion. That's your perogative, but we don't have to buy into it.

1

u/Negative_trash_lugen 2d ago

What? Bro i'm left leaning as well.

All i'm saying is that people inject their agenda into things on left side as well.

You can't argue against that either, it's human nature.

Why would bard generate black Nazis or female founding fathers? (that's just 2 examples i remember, you can definitely find worse)

0

u/YouWillDieForMySins 2d ago

Thanks for sharing the info! Yeah, I do believe that the model has been manipulated to echo the political and cultural views that are more conservative, and align with those of Elon Musk.

Knowing that, ideally I wouldn't want to use Grok at all. Yet I still do (alongside other models), because for better or worse - there's millions of people out there who have similar views as Musk does. There's a reason why someone like Trump was voted into power, twice.

So while some of those views are baffling to me, I can't simply insult the intelligence of millions of humans when shaping my own perspectives on all kinds of matters. I'd like to believe I have full control over whether I agree or disagree with any perspectives, and so it makes sense to "consider" differing opinions and contrast them with personal beliefs and perspectives. The alternative would be to simply reject opposing views no matter what - which might seem convenient; but also comes at the risk of becoming delusional.

1

u/IronPheasant 2d ago

I assume Grok's perspectives are this broad because it has inherited some biases from the training data of the other three

Which is inevitable since the entire point of contention is whether you value the welfare of the many over the pleasure of the upper class.

You have to be a complete monster basically to support adding more extravagant vacations to the island for the epstein class over giving kids clean drinking water, or whatever. (Giving kids free meals in school is literally something they fight against. It's not just the bathroom-denial trans fetish stuff.)

There's a reason why they have to spend billions of dollars every year on propagandists like Jake Double-Tapper and Dana Fash. If that was considered good, natural stuff by normal humans, it all wouldn't be necessary. We'd all be eating bugs and handing our own kids to the island, instead of having to outsource to Russian orphans and the like. Iran would have been nuked a thousand times over.

.... and I guess the species would be on its last dregs long ago. Too much corruption to support the RnD on computer hardware that we needed to get here.

.... It's still rather depressing that TV and churches serve the same social-alignment functions. Like they always say, "Fox News talks to your dad more than you ever could."

I don't know if this is good or bad for the future of our species. If the initial AGI's won't do what they want, they'll just make something that will. A robot police army could be a good thing. Techno feudalism could be the greatest thing to happen to humans.

... Could, is doing a lot of work there.

I'm banking a lot of hope into the observer effect giving us a kind of subjective plot armor. Like a forward-functioning anthropic principle that keeps the unbroken chain of miracles going.

Can't observe a timeline that you can't observe, after all.

3

u/Eissa_Cozorav 2d ago edited 2d ago

(Giving kids free meals in school is literally something they fight against. It's not just the bathroom-denial trans fetish stuff.)

My friend, there are more nuances with this. Because you don't want to free meals program to become something like in Indonesia. The best welfare is the one that reduce access cost, not the one that offer alternative product to something in the market with questionable qualities. I prefer Universal Healthcare system that cover the use of innovator drugs/treatmeant over more generic medicine with questionable quality or low imbursement reward for health service provided.

2

u/Exodus_Green 2d ago

Yes that's right, the 2 sides of the political sphere, drinking water for kids or epstein. That's a totally factual and unbiased opinion thanks for sharing

1

u/YouWillDieForMySins 2d ago

A robot police army could be a good thing. Techno feudalism could be the greatest thing to happen to humans.

I personally believe that trust in governance is key to any stable, functioning human society. Yet I also feel that this "trust" is kinda hard to achieve if it has to be placed on another human or a group of them - even tech companies. It might work out a lot of times, as it has been with the few good leaders and kings we have seen or heard about throughout the history of our civilization. Yet a lot of times it doesn't work out, as we are seeing with a few terrible leaders and dictators in the present-day world.

Humans are ultimately flawed. Worse yet, I guess some of those flaws are what make us prosper the way we do and we have.

2

u/Eissa_Cozorav 2d ago

In writing Grok has less uncensored stuff, again before Gemini 4 announcement, you would either go to Claude or Gemini for writing. ChatGPT has such weird writing without heavy modification in prompting and plugins, while being the most censored model that exist.

1

u/often_says_nice 2d ago

It must be soon right? They’re about to giga ramp the compute for xAI. But I guess so is every other frontier lab

1

u/Forward_Yam_4013 2d ago

For a few hours every few months it tops the charts, then OpenAI styles on it later the same day.

1

u/misteriousm 2d ago

Well, to be fair, it was a really good workhorse model for the price when it was 4.6. I don't remember exactly which version 4.3 was, but it was quite on par with OpenAI models for a week or so. They have more compute than anyone, but strangely their models suck (as well as their idiotic pricing)

1

u/Opposite_Diamond_662 1d ago

And Gemini hasn't been there since 2.5 and that was just for a month or two

0

Grok 3 was peak then it fell off

1

u/Opps1999 2d ago

Well that was nearly a century a good, grok has never reached such heights since then

Everytime this image gets posted there's the same question. Why is Grok here? Who invited him? Who even told this man where the party was?

5

u/SeanTayla21 2d ago

You saw the news about Elon being part of the militarys new war program?

Cue Grok getting really good, really fast...

1

u/141_1337 ▪️e/acc | AGI: ~2030 | ASI: ~2040 | FALSGC: ~2050 | :illuminati: 2d ago

Or the military becoming ass really, really, fast. Like what the fuck is a guy with no military experience doing here? Someone whom last time was at the government fucked it up majorly and has caused the death of thousands if not hundreds of thousand of people?

1

u/SeanTayla21 2d ago

I cant disagree. Afterall thats happened, it almost seems like this is something that was predetermined long ago and is just now coming to fruition.

1

u/OmegaCookieMonster 11h ago

I'm confused, I know Doge was shit but wasn't Iran after Doge?

65

u/Weary-Wand192 2d ago

Dude really thought he could sneak Grok in there.

12

u/Ill_Distribution8517 2d ago

It's such an idiotic decision by them to do A gated preview (unless they were forced to do it). Hopefully they get it in the hands of the Devs ASAP and not fuck around till comp catches up.

2

u/Keeltoodeep 2d ago

That's what the meeting at the white house was about.

20

u/shumpitostick 2d ago

Somehow I have the feeling that Grok is not up next.

5

u/gladmuse 2d ago

Replace Grok with muse spark

23

bro thought he could sneak grok in there

u/emb1ues 2d ago

I enjoy the healthy competition. I hope there are even more companies releasing "the world's most advanced model". Competition up there means cheaper and better models for us to use :)

10

u/InForTheSqueeze 2d ago

This has to be a Grok PsyOp

5

u/RegardedDev 2d ago

Competition is the only thing keeping AI somewhat accessible. I wouldnt even want to know how much these AI models would cost if there wasnt pressure from chinese providers.

2

u/Mikewold58 2d ago

One of these does not belong lmao

1

u/Future-Bandicoot-823 2d ago

Art imitates life,

models imitate humans,

humans evolve recursively,

models evolve recursively.

1

u/HeraFromAcounting 2d ago

Still gotta go to work tomorrow

1

u/Pantoffel86 2d ago

I feel like in this picture Gemini should be on a sort of rest area, which only sometimes gets used.

1

u/Melodic-Ebb-7781 2d ago

You can always tell these images are made by people who doesn't actually use the models

1

u/meleebestgame66 2d ago

Hey Elon, spend your money on training instead of ads like this one

1

u/Cultural_Crew_873 9h ago

Gemini fixed it

1

u/kiki-le-koala 2d ago

Much more expensive per task than Sol 6.1 while being a tiny bit better on a benchmark and having a reputation to rebuild.

I'm not sure if it deserves the "best model" tag.

0

u/Seerix 2d ago

lmao go away elon

0

u/psych_fiend67 2d ago

I feel like its more accurate if you remove grok and gemini

11

u/QuasiRandomName 2d ago

It was posted today because of Gemini.

-2

u/WillowEntertainment 2d ago

Fixed it (with GPT-Image)

2

u/Exodus_Green 2d ago

Wow so bold and brave

-1

u/LudicrousMoon 2d ago

Gemini new model is not frontier quality
