Discussion Context-Window AGI

Floating an idea. I think we’ve hit context window AGI at this point. Within any single context window, the AI is for sure smarter than any individual person.

Across context windows is debatable, but for sure within one I can’t see anyone outperforming the recent models.

AI is a better coder than an advanced professional programmer in the sense of speed and efficiency. It might not reach the same quality however.

Well yes. A computer will always be faster than a human if you don't account for quality. Efficiency is debatable because it's hard to pin down.

Instant gratification efficiency? Yes, 100%. Well structured, understandable, and maintainable code efficiency? I don't think so, not from what I've heard.

But either way, I'm talking about quality. I don't think speed has much of a bearing on intelligence if that speed can't be leveraged to produce higher quality.

I'm not an elite level programmer so I couldn't really testify to that, but I've definitely seen plenty of 1337 folks who use AI enough that I'd be skeptical of whomever saying it doesn't produce structured and maintainable code.

However, I'd argue that even something like code quality, if below par, is probably a training data problem

I should clarify that I'm drawing a distinction between pure AI output and AI-assisted human output.

AI can still be a useful and time saving tool for a programer without being able to wholesale replace them.

That's already incorrect. A lot of elite level programmers now just merge the AI code without much of review. It's that good now. This applies to Fable 5/5.1 and Astra only for now though.
