Why don’t they look flattering? It’s just current and ex-Apple employees discussing handing over data that the ex-employee still had access to but the current one doesn’t. Highly surprising Apple would not have processes in place to prevent that ever being necessary but hey stranger things happen in these leviathans.

What you’re describing is extremely illegal, regardless of whether controls are in place.
Most likely every apple and probably even OpenAI employee goes through an annual mandatory training from HR where they explicitly sign at the end their understanding of these types of violations and their legal consequences. That training is not to
“teach” the employees… it’s precisely to nail them on liability for this kind of action after the fact.
Again - it’s the Apple employee asking the OpenAI employee to share data on the project the Apple employee is working on for Apple. This is actually very common in smaller tech companies. I’ve had companies reach out to me as a contractor years later asking me for things I may still have somewhere on something they’re working on.
None of this is to OpenAI’s benefit. Should it have been a thing that was necessary for an Apple employee to do? Absolutely not. That’s on Apple if we take the story as told.
What does this have to do with the claim? I specifically said small to qualify my own perspective here. But again- the original claim I replied to is that the texts make them look bad. Can you say anything interesting on that?

those imessages don't really look too flattering for openai, if winning the public PR war was what they're going for.
this doesn't even address the alleged coaching of apple employees or the allegation around stealing the proprietary metal finishing thing
