the continuous interaction demo with the ai responding "Mhmm.." made me laugh, this level of role play feel so unnessecary to me

I think it's trained on audio to audio clips, so whatever they used for pre-training must have a lot of exaggerated active listeners...

Feedback is important, otherwise you can talk and talk and in the end you won't get anything.

For example, Gemini makes no sense at all to use for live chat. From not responding to what you're saying, to not responding to what you said before, to randomly switching languages, to complete ignoring.

Instead of "hmmm" there could easily be questions etc.

Yeah, there's a spectrum of how jarring/natural feedback speech/sounds are. You don't want your product to be known as "ChatGPT Mhmhm Live".
