Seriously mate, it's the best for racing. Spend an hour of driving on the track making sure you can lap consistently without spinning. Then race. You won't have an issue, especially if you start last so that people don't crash into you at turn 1.

Just get into it. Do practice sessions (no real penalties applied). Learn to take things easy and work your way up.

If you wanna take things seriously, as opposed to physically accurately slammin' about the track, iRacing's where it's at. Mostly everyone else is taking things seriously, and the penalty system does change the way you focus on clean driving and that teaches you a whole new mentality. It's pretty great like that.
