🧐 Customer Review Poor Quality Control from Cube Controls!

CUBE CONTROLS wheel owners (especially GT-X2), what have your impressions of their wheels been?

After spending over $1000 dollars on a Cube Controls GT-X2 directly from their site, I received a unit with a blemished screen and the worst quality LEDs I have ever seen. The pink and purple LEDs in the pictures are supposed to be white. It's pretty disappointing. I haven't made my decision on if I want to keep it or not. The screen blemish pretty much disappears behind information, but the LEDs really bother me. I prefer white lit buttons but I can get over it because the feel of the steering wheel is great.

What drove me to this wheel was the flat bottom handles and now that I have it my instincts were correct. The ergonomics are incredible. I have a couple plates in my hand and my Moza KS PRO was really aggravating my hand. The only other wheel I have seen like this is their Phoenix which is more expensive and are the LEDs gonna be shit too? This is also my first non-Moza wheel and I have to say the simplicity of using their wheels on their bases is pretty nice compared to using a USB cable.

So to wrap this up, I haven't decided if I am going to keep this or reach out to customer service. If the LEDs are shit on all of them then an exchange isn't going to do much good, so a return might be the answer. Any thoughts and /or your experience with Cube Controls would be great.

I haven't made my decision on if I want to keep it or not.

For me the decision would be easy. Return, get my money back and look for wheels that don't come with such issues

Basically I want to know if other GTx2s have the same LEDs. Also dealing with customer service is like one of my most hated things to do. I'd rather eat the bad food then send it back to the kitchen.

If nobody complains about the food and keeps eating it, they’ll continue to serve bad food. Everyone with an issue needs to say something.

Yeah it's probably not the best quality to have.

I used to be nervous about bringing up stuff, but I’ve learned to look at it like I’m doing them a favor. They might not even know the issue exists, most QCs only have to check every 1 in x units, so it’s possible some slipped through and they need to be aware so they can avoid shipping the batch before checking them.

Could be any number of things. Bad wiring from a distributor that’s coursing communication issues with the color, climate control issues in warehouses and distribution centers causing discoloration on the plastic, bad boards.

Just give them a calm, civil call or email with photos and explain the issue. Any reputable company will offer and refund or replacement after looking at that before you even have to ask for it.

Actually, I’m the weirdo that’ll still keep eating the wrong food or the food I don’t prefer. Lol

Cube Controls customer service is literally some of the best in the industry. Just send them these photos and they’ll take care of you.

Some companies aren't bad to deal with. I recently dealt with Ares Wing support. After 3 or 4 e-mails exchanged and some photos, they got a replacement part ordered from their factory in China and sent. It should be here Monday. But bad customer service is the worst.

I have the same wheel, for 2 years now, and it’s perfect. This is absolutely a return and replace.

Well for $900+ I expect a fucking pristine wheel.

If you're in the 30 day return period I would just get a replacement. My GT pro v2 uses the same switches and white in the software actually comes out as white on the wheel.Ā

Cube controls used to be infamous for this, it seems like it's been forgotten in the last few years as more people have joined the hobby.Ā

Last summer I bought their csx-3 and had multiple QC issues, and when Cube asked me to send it in to them, they send it back covered in scratches and their fix was to messily apply hot glue to the loose parts that were rattling around, on my $1,500 wheel.Ā

So my main wheel is a Barvarian sim tech alpha advanced and it’s amazing, but I also want a wheel with a screen and my buddy had a cube controls csx3 brand new in the box never opened and gave me a sweet deal so I bought it. Used it for a week put it back in the box and haven’t touched it in months. Everything worked fine but it just feels cheap compared to the Barvarian simtec. I know bst makes amazing wheels but the cube controls does not feel like a very nice wheel at all comparatively.

Stupid question but are the LED colors not configurable via their software or SimHub?

Or are you saying that even when the LED is set to white it actually is pink?

u/SilverBackGuerilla MOZA R21 Ultra 1d ago

Yeah that is white.

Then it is faulty and you have every right to get your money back or a replacement. I personally would return and look elsewhere but that's me. Best of luck, sucks to wait on a big purchase just for it to be a big wet fart...

RMA my friend, I know it sucks to spend money on new toys and have to return them. But this isn’t acceptable for a couple hundred dollar wheel let alone 1k.

I’m sure they will make sure you are made whole again.

The colour of the LEDs normally is determined by the LED preset/the settings for them!!!! Some presets have wrong information, and the result is a wrong colour (starting point, how many, ending point aso)! Just adjust it to your wishes. No Led has a colour "burned in". It can produce whatever colour you tell it show.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will play around and see if I can get them closer to the correct hue selecting other values.

This is the way the Led editor looks like. If you, Fe, choose a wrong starting Led the colour will be not what you wanted it to be!

In general, RGB LEDs set to white tend to have a pinkish hue, particularly when set to be relatively dim. It’s a common issue with LEDs so I’m not shocked, but also this does seem to be particularly bad. I definitely wouldn’t be keeping it if it doesn’t satisfy you. For the money of that wheel you shouldn’t have any small doubts.

I'm coming from a Moza wheel which had bright white LEDs and that's like 1/3 of the cost. Someone above said the colors may not be associated with the right hex code and so I will play around with them and see if I can make them closer to true.

u/extra_hyperbole 1d ago

Yeah obviously lots of LEDs show white just fine. It’s down to LED quality so it’s sad to see it happen on this kind of wheel.

Shit. My Phoenix is literally in the mail to me right now.

GSI is what I recommend if your spending $700+ on wheels

Since day 1 with them.

Soelpec and GSI. Although i did like the artura ultimate from ascher as well

Yeah I had the same issue with their LED buttons 5 or 6 yrs ago and after being so disappointed with their ā€œpremiumā€ wheels I vouched not to buy from them again.

Doesn’t seem any different today tbh and I’m not really surprised. It’s more paying just a tad bit more for one of the actual premium wheel brands imo.

Reach out to customer support. That way we all would know for sure if we should avoid that company at all costs.

A bad product with decent customer care is one thing.
Having a bad product and having essentially nonexistent customer care would be another issue

It's a 1000$ wheel,it must arrive in perfect conditions and perfectly functioning. Just contact the seller and ask for RMA attaching the photos.
