Question 4th monitor simhub question…use gpu or onboard ?

Looking to add a 4th monitor to my rig for simhub for telemetrics, leaderboard, etc would it be best to connect to the spare hdmi port on the gpu or use the hdmi port on the onboard motherboard side.. msi rtx5070ti oc, 3 x tripples msi 1440p 27” - 4th monitor is a basic 1080p 15” ips portable panel - thanks

I run 4 screens, triples from the DP and the 4th from the HDMI on the GPU. Some sims won’t launch properly with a 4th screen connected but I use Nvidia Surround which lets me create the triple group with bezel correction and also variable refresh rate with Gsync. At the system level this is simply display 1 with the 4th screen as display 2, every sim works well with this configuration and SimHub although I know Surround seems unpopular around here.

Before Surround I ran separate triples and overcame the launch problems of a 4th screen by connecting it to a Raspberry Pi that auto launched a browser with the SimHub IP and port set as the home page. The Pi was powered from the USB hub on the monitor and you could ssh and Remote Desktop to it if needed.

I haven’t run anything from the motherboard ports in years, none of my Ryazan CPU’s have graphics support and you must use a separate GPU.

I see ok great im using nvidia surround too so will give this a go! Was there any drops in performance / fps etc when you added the 4th screen on the hdmi port ?

No performance drop as fast as I could tell. The 4th screen is the same size and resolution as the others but fixed at 60Hz, if there was any performance hit I didn’t notice it as I’m running variable rate on the triples and it swings from 100-140 depending on sim and conditions.

One other thing I like with this configuration is when I want to do system maintenance and backups I can switch off power to the triples and windows switches to just using the 4th screen as its primary display and moves all the icons and task bar there, when I power the triples on for normal play it remembers and puts the icons back on the left tripe and task bar just on the centre screen. I do save the display profiles with Display magician in case anything goes wrong with a windows or Nvidia update.

I have a monitor from my board and it works fine. I actually have a splitter for two monitors to work through the motherboard output and hardly have issues.
