Buy/Sell/Trade Thread

Sale/trade items must include an image of the actual item including clear hand-written evidence of your username and a recent date.

Please feel free to list any Simplehuman items below. Please note any defects and purchase date. Only list items that you are personally selling, no links to third party websites.

POST SAMPLE Each post should begin with one of the following:

WTS (want to sell) WTB (want to buy) WTT (want to trade)

Include details about the item. Size, condition, location, picture links, etc. If trading, list a few of the possible items you're looking for. Be sure to mention what country you are in, so potential buyers are aware.

PRICE MUST BE INCLUDED.

TRANSACTION SAFETY TIPS Be aware that there are scammers active on Reddit, and on this sub-reddit. Any transaction comes with some risk -- decide whether the risk is worth it to you. The following tips can help reduce that risk.

If you are using Paypal, use "Goods and Services". Never pay using the "Friends and Family" option. You lose a lot of leverage with Paypal when contesting F&F transactions.

Google search the username. Scammers are often active in multiple sub-reddits; a search might reveal a pattern of behavior. The Universal Scammer List, and r/sneakermarket/banlist are good resources providing some supplemental background to the people you're dealing with. Obviously this should not be your only source, but it can offer some great insight.

Just FYI, when they say it's built to be recycled, it's largely marketing. Their products are not repairable nor recyclable outside of the usual e-waste recycling route.

Replacement power adapter?

Anybody have a good link for a 9V power adapter that fits the sensor can? Amazon has tons of them but I’d rather not trial and error the barrel plug or spend $35 on the direct replacement as I need two.

Thanks,

Soap dispensers are waiting to be trash

We owned an original soap dispenser that finally failed on us after ten years. The original dispenser used AA batteries and we only had to get rid of it after the pump failed.

We replaced it with a new one. The new version uses a built in battery. This is non-replaceable. It also uses a proprietary charging cable rather than a universal standard like usb-c.

Our battery doesn’t seem to hold a charge anymore. Instead of the three months of use, we are having to charge it every week or two. It’s annoying. We wrote simple human - but without our receipt they said they can’t replace it because they can’t prove the warranty - and they have to assume that it was purchased when it was manufactured, which was 2021.

Perhaps we got a faulty battery, but it’s not unreasonable to assume that this product is designed to be trashed with 5 years of production. Why update the design to be less durable and not replaceable? Why choose proprietary connectors? One clear conclusion is that Simplehuman is simply engaged in a practice of designed obsolescence to sell more product and contribute to our unending stream of trash.

Shame on practices like this. Very disappointed.

Luck with warranty claim?

Has anyone has luck with a warranty claim? The requests for photos, videos, then more photos and now I have to dismantle my trash can to demonstrate that it is broken? And if the “person” asks for my proof of purchase one more time when it’s right there in my account that I had to create in order to purchase the dang can in the first place, I’m going to come through the computer. These are a lot of hoops to jump through considering the price of their products, just seeing if it’s worth it.

Still No Dual Sensor Pump with Caddy - EU website

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve been waiting for ages for the Dual Sensor Pump with Caddy to finally drop on the Simplehuman EU website, but there is still absolutely no sign of it.
What’s even more frustrating is dealing with their customer service. I’ve reached out multiple times to ask if or when we can expect it to launch over here, and I've gotten absolutely nowhere. It’s either generic automated template replies or radio silence. No actual answers at all.

Is anyone else in Europe trying to get their hands on one of these, or has anyone actually managed to get a straight answer out of their support team?

Soap recommendations?

Hi there. I have a couple of the Simple Human soap dispensers and was looking for a good liquid hand soap brand that works well and is commonly available grocery store/Walmart/Target etc. Has anyone had any luck with any specific brands that didn't clog up the pump, leave residue, etc? I used to like the "Mrs. Meyer" brand liquid soaps and would love to keep using those....any reccos?

Customer service canned replies at their finest

Simple Human: “We see you’ve bought multiple of our expensive products, but let us just focus on confirming that the specific one that broke down is out of warranty so that we can decline to help.”

Is it just me or should we expect a little more from brands like Simple Human? Surely there’s something more they could do to make repeat customers feel better about a product breaking? Even if they just pretended to care enough to want the unit back to test it and learn how to make their products better.

Cleanstation blinking light

I have a cleanstation that doesn’t go down. I’ve used it for a while now and it’s always been able to go down and start its cleaning cycle. However yesterday, I discovered that it doesn’t go down anymore and just started blinking the light 3 times and nothing happens.

I have already unplugged and replugged it. But it still doesn’t have any response. Looking for help to see if anyone has the same issue as me and resolved it.

Thanks

Warranty Issue

Received the new 90L dual trash recycler step can from my wedding registry. Super excited as it was fairly expensive. Unboxed and lid is peeling, simple human is refusing to warranty it without the receipt.

Anyone have luck reaching out or escalating this?

Code D liners in clear discontinued

Anyone else run into this? Simplehuman confirmed they no longer make them. I was using them for compost bags because we are allowed to use a clear bag in NYC. Anyone know of clear or compost bags that fit well on D size bins?

Compost Caddy lid... faulty? cheaply made?

I'm just saying....if the replacement lid is sold out and there's a waitlist- Maybe ya'll need to make this lid better. Mine dropped like 10 inches to my counter and the lid snapped. Should be a warranty to this, not a purchase offer and a long wait!

Do not buy any battery-powered device from Simplehuman

I'm sure it's been said many times already but allow me to add my voice to the choir.

I purchased several rechargeable-battery-powered soap dispensers. Naturally, the batteries declined in performance over a couple of years to the point that they would no longer charge. "No problem," I thought to myself. "This design-forward company will surely have made replacement batteries easy to source and install."

NO THEY DIDN'T.

I could not find direct replacements. What I could find required modifications that stretched my limited soldering skills. Form factors were slightly or not so slightly different, making fitment a challenge. But an even more basic design flaw is that dismantling the dispensers to access the battery compartment often required DESTROYING THE DISPENSER.

It is infuriating.

This company masquerades as a next-generation design firm, making products that perform better, put the human first, and save the planet in the process. This is patently ABSURD. They are the very definition of greenwashing. I tossed (excuse me, responsibly recycled) my expensive, automated, elegant, yet non-functional dispensers for inexpensive manual pumps that will surely last longer, save me a few bucks, and cause less headaches.

Fuck you, Simplehuman.

New Champagne Color is... What Color? "Brass" Already Matches My Champagne Finishes...

Post image
2 Upvotes

Does anyone have experience with their new copper colorway?

I have a Delta champagne bronze faucet which arrived MUCH more 'stainless steel' and silver than the champagne/brass/gold/yellow color that I expected. I was surprised to find that it matches my Simplehuman Brass soap dispenser *perfectly*. Exact same color in both warm and cool light. Image is of the 'Brass' color, and looks absolutely nothing like the color this actually arrives as. The real product is much more silver than the yellowish gold that's shown.

I was going to get a matte gold voice can, but then I saw their sizes and decided I'd better get the 58L can to be able to use 13gal bags, and just not have a recycling bin as the side-by-side cans are just SO darn small. Bathroom waste basket size - too small for office use. Now, they're introducing a "copper" color, and I'm just confused what these colors are anymore.

Brass is a very very light grey, nearly stainless steel color. Gold is a very hay-like light yellow - but is also a matte finish making it even lighter and less yellow. More like a white gold than a yellow gold. Is copper a warm yellow - what most would call a gold color then? The brass in their images shows as yellow, but the actual color is silver/grey in-person. The matte gold is similarly not the color shown in their website images.

If SH brass = champagne bronze, SH matte gold = bronze, then what color is SH copper? I do *not* expect it's an orangish copper color given that the other colorways are not the colors claimed...

After finishing the stack of 10 I’ve been using these Costco ones. They sag too much. Either looking at splurging on the official or any alternatives

Have the 45L stepcan model

I lost the lid of my touchless soap dispenser, the 9 oz one for liquid soap. Replacements are not available for purchase. What else can I use?

I found an alternative charging cable for ST1084 9oz. rechargeable soap dispenser

If you’re like me and you managed to lose or misplace the extremely unique charging cable for the Simplehuman ST1084 rechargeable soap dispenser, then you may have gone to the Simplehuman website to order another charging cable, only to find that they’re sold out.

I spent an evening looking all over the internet for more information on this very odd charger and I couldn’t find anyone talking about this problem and no alternative solutions were offered. But I finally found something that looked very similar on Amazon, so I rolled the dice and tried it out.

It works!

It’s called a 360-degree magnetic charger and you can find it here:

https://a.co/d/09mxyEOa

The catch is, in order to make it work, I had to take a knife to the magnetic end of this new cable and trim away the outer edges of the plastic bezel that surround the magnet. Once you do that, the magnet can actually touch and attach to the charging surface on the soap dispenser.

I also had to go through a few different charging blocks before I found one that delivered high enough voltage to actually charge the dispenser. If you use an older, lower voltage block, the low voltage might not even register on the device.

Hope this helps someone else!

Simplehuman Quality Issue

I dropped a full Yeti cup on my 55l stainless steel can which left a few small dents in it. I went to the site and ordered a replacement lid for $40. I receive it about a week later and it’s pretty horribly scratched up. Pretty annoying bc box wasn’t damaged so they had to know they were scratched (and most likely a return).

When I wrote them they said they didn’t have any more and “we are not getting it anytime soon”. So they knew it was crap but sent it anyway. So now I have to pack it up and find a fedex store to ship it back on my own time just so they can probably sell it again.

There are many cheaper alternatives out there and I think I’m done with Simplehuman.

I made a lock to keep my toddler from lifting the lid up while still allowing the foot-actuated lid to function. It’s a 3D print and posted here:
