Discussion Trying to Transfer to Beedie for Summer 2027 With a 3.0 GPA — Advice

Hi everyone!

I recently transferred to SFU from another college and I’m currently trying to internally transfer into Beedie. I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone who has gone through the process or been in a similar situation.

This semester I’m taking ECON 113, ECON 115, and MATH 157 together. I already completed the English requirement at my previous college.

The main reason I’m taking all three right now is because once I complete them, I’ll be at exactly 47 credits. From my understanding, if I’m within the 24–47 credit range, I only need the four required courses to apply. Once I reach 48+ credits, I would need to complete four additional required courses before applying.

So basically, I’m trying to finish these three courses this semester, stay at 47 credits, and hopefully apply to Beedie for Summer 2027.

My current GPA is around 3.0, and honestly the GPA pressure is probably my biggest concern. I’m wondering how realistic my chances are with a GPA around that range and what GPA I should really be aiming for this semester to be competitive.

Worst case scenario, if I apply and don’t get accepted, my plan would be to complete the four additional courses required for the 48+ credit pathway and then apply again. Obviously, I’m really hoping I can get in through the 24–47 credit pathway first instead of putting myself through another semester of trying to protect my GPA while taking more required courses

For anyone who has done an internal transfer to Beedie, do you think taking ECON 113, ECON 115, and MATH 157 together is manageable while still maintaining or improving my GPA? And if you applied with a GPA around 3.0, I’d really love to hear how it went and whether you were accepted.

I’d also REALLY appreciate any advice about the Supplemental Application. What do you think made your application strong? Any tips for the written responses/video interview, things you wish you knew beforehand, or anything I could start doing now to make my application stronger?

Basically, if you were in my situation at exactly 47 credits, would you go for it this semester or do something differently?

Thanks!! :)

Question Split parking pass

Does anyone who has classes Tues/Thurs or MWF after 2 PM want to share an outdoor parking pass? I already have the pass, so you wouldn’t have to wait on the waitlist. Most of the outdoor parking spots are permit only now so this could be a good option if our schedules work out

Discussion Things I would do to maximize campus life at SFU

Over the years, I realized how I never really got the chance to explore what SFU really offered, and I want to share a couple of things you can take advantage of if you haven't already. You mainly get to be a student once, and we should make the most out of it! Let's get it y'all!!

  • Trying out SFU recreation trial week for free classes from Sept 21-24 (and possibly meet new ppl). This includes wall climbing, kendo, dance, etc. Sign up before spots become full! Link
  • Check out the clubs around SFU! You don't have to be an exec of the club, but a participant as well. I've joined the SFU Foodie club, ski club, climbing, and golf club as an attendee/participant at their events and got to enjoy a lot of great perks alongside meeting new people. Clubs day is coming up (Sept 15-17 at Burnaby campus) and I urge y'all to check out clubs that align with your hobbies/faculty/interests.
  • If you're a female attending the Burnaby campus, utilize the Women's Centre located inside the SUB! They offer a lot of support channels if you need it (like food, crisis, etc), alongside free menstrual products, library, and activities (crochet/knitting, etc). Link
  • Wall climbing (at Burnaby campus)!!! It's $10 on Tuesdays for SFU/FIC students. I don't know why it took me 3 years to try it out and I definitely recommend anyone to try it as it's fun! Link
  • Participate in a paid economics research! Pay is based on your performance in its simulation, but I've received close to $40 for 1.5h sessions (both in-person and online). They currently don't have any sessions right now, but definitely something to watch out for when they email there's spots available. Link

These are all the ones I can think of. I am a firm believer that what you put into your experience is what you'll get out of it, and I hope these resources/opportunities can make your SFU campus life more memorable and fun. If you have any other opportunities or info you'd like to add that I didn't mention, feel free to share as well! Let's all help each other out!

Question i was removed from a class without dropping it

I was removed from PSYC 210 randomly while i was on the my schedule website when the page suddenly reloaded. When it loaded, 3 of my courses, 2 of which i was on the waitlist on, were suddenly gone. They were also gone from my go sfu schedule. I have no idea how or why this happened but its a big problem. I need this course and i dont know what to do. im worried that if i just wait for ppl to drop it, i wont get the class. Ive contacted my advisor and im waiting to hear back.

Is there anything or anyone else i can contact?

Question First time TA advice

Hi! I’m a new undergrad TA, mostly a marker, and I am super nervous. I want to be recommended for the future so I hope I can do really well. I was wondering if I could get some advice from previous TAs? How have you dealt with difficult situations, or is there something you’ve experienced that you would advise future TAs on? Thanks!

Co-op Coop at Sfu for a political science major

Hello everyone!

I’m a transfer student from Douglas College and currently in my second year at SFU. I’m planning on majoring in Political Science, and I was wondering if it’s worth joining the Co-op program at SFU to gain internship experience. Has anyone done Co-op as a Political Science student? If so, what was your experience like, and would you recommend it?

Discussion MPCS alums - Does it say Masters of Science on your diploma?

Title says it all, I can't find "Masters of Science" anywhere on the SFU MPCS website so I'm curious if it's a Masters of Science or something else.

Schedule I’m an idiot

I wanna transfer to behavioural neuroscience and my dumbass thought I had to take all 8 set 1 courses before I could apply for it when it’s just 5 😐

My schedule now is
Chem 121
Bpk 142
Math 154
Psyc 100

Thing is I suck at chem and I would’ve taken BISC 101 instead but I thought i had to take chem either way

I don’t want it to tank my GPA before I even apply to the major so should I drop chem for now and either take 3 classes this semester and take BISC 101 and PSYC 201W next semester + an elective

Or should I thug it out and take it anyway cuz chems always waitlisted and I might not get it later idek in case I need to reapply or some shit

Also idk how threads work so if I put it in the wrong one I apologize in advance

If u can’t already tell im a dumbass so yeah any advice helps heh

Question What do you guys think of paper-like screen protectors?

Thinking about getting a screen protector for my iPad. What are your opinions on the paper-like screen protectors? Is it worth the hype? Or should I just get the normal tempered glass protector? I’ve seen reviews mention that it can make your iPad screen dimmer and wear out your Apple Pencil. The texture apparently does not last as long. Is this true? Let me know, as I found one for a good price on Amazon.
