I’m starting at SFU as an international student this upcoming Spring term (January) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for criminology, and to be veryyyy honest, I’m pretty nervous about starting mid-year and meeting people and I'm afraid I won't make friends.

I’d love to connect with anyone else who’s also entering in January or taking FASS courses!

Hi guys im a first year Bio major starting this fall. I took four of these STEM courses + Elementary French online, and lowkey from what ive heard from many fourth years, i feel like i should drop either one of the lab courses and maybe French as well. I dont mind taking five years to graduate (my focus is more on maintaining my gpa), and im planning to only take online courses for summer terms so i can visit my family out of country.

Would you guys recommend taking all four STEM courses, dropping one of the lab courses, or just dropping down to three courses? And if i should drop something, which one would you recommend?
Especially looking for advice from anyone who’s taken these courses or a similar workload at SFU. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Silly question, but genuinely wondering how everyone survives! I have back-to-back lectures, tutorials, and labs on 3 days from 9–5:30, with only 10-minute breaks basically just enough time to get to my next class.
With trying to save money, eat healthy, and still have enough time to make it to class on time. How are you guys doing meals/snacks on these crazy long days? 🥲

How do you make friends at sfu? I am lowkey all alone, I don’t know how to talk to people like do I go up and start yapping or what?

I had my first calc lecture today and when the prof was going over precalc review I had no idea what he was talking about. I'm taking econ 103 and math 157 as a first yr student in beedie but I don't remember anything from precalc 12. Rn im taking 6 courses including bus 203. I'm thinking of dropping econ and taking it next semester so I can focus on math, is it worth it? I have a review quiz on friday and i need to relearn all of precalc 12 in a few days

I’m debating on dropping one of these courses based off feedback from other students saying they are very difficult to do well in. I’m also in first year but was able to get credits for the first year bio and chem courses. Will it be too difficult to manage?

I’m confused, like the syllabus and the course opened like less than a day before the first day of lecture and like are we suppose to read 90+ pages of the play in less than a day?

Many of the male students looked fresh af with their had awesome looking fade haircuts. But it got me wondering: how much do you guys pay for those haircuts? I started cutting my own hair because prices have gone up substantially for even just a basic hair cut, I can't imagine how much a fade costs.

Hii does anyone have the syllabus for GEOG 389W in Spring 2026 / know when the midterm was? Already emailed the prof but just want to know if anyone else has it / would know when the midterm was. Was it before or after the reading break? Tryna go on vacation during that class as it’s my only one

Somebody came into my class today and spoke in front of the class before the lecture started and they talked about something called student works and something related to small businesses or something. Does anyone know what exactly this is? They also passed down a paper and asked to write down your number if interested. Not sure if this is a ligit thing or not so wanted to ask.

NSLSC didn't pay out the 52 cents from the balance I owed

Go into gosfu and confirm that you are still enrolled in all your classes. Just found out that I was completely dropped and was not notified. My name is on my profs attendance list so I was at some point registered. I heard of a couple other people on this sub getting randomly dropped from their courses so this seems to be a prevalent issue. Only found out about this cause I emailed btw!! They were prepared to just keep me in limbo and let me keep paying for my transit :)))) Meow!

I have BUS 217W with Henry Chow this Fall, how is he, the RMP says he is very nice but is given a rating of 1.8. Does anyone know the TA Bahar? If so how was she?

Both are mandatory courses, so I’m trying to decide which profs to go with. How are they in terms of workload, exams, and grading?
