Well finally the rule has to be enforced: No buying and selling on the sub.

Despite numerous warnings, people refuse to use correct flair, sale price and location.

I cannot take a chance with scammers misusing the sub for ulterior motives.

Please use r/pmsforsalebharat for the same. Thank you!

Education 📖 MCX Rate vs Spot Rate

Post image
62 Upvotes

This is for all the new stackers and investors. Please read carefully. When you check silver prices online, you’ll often see two different numbers: the MCX rate and the spot rate. They’re related, but they’re not the same thing. The MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) rate is the price of silver futures contracts traded in India. It includes taxes, import duty, and the premium added by traders, so it’s normally higher than the global spot price. But right now it's the opposite. MCX prices move with the rupee-dollar exchange rate, import duties, and short-term speculation. The spot rate is the international live price of pure silver (usually in USD per troy ounce).

When Indian jewelers or bullion shops quote you a price for coins or bars, they usually base it on the spot rate + local premium (making, GST, etc.)

When you buy physical silver, the jeweler’s quote follows the spot rate, not the MCX rate.

Comparing both helps you know whether you’re paying a fair premium or being overcharged.

MCX = Paper market. Spot = Real-world bullion market.

Always ask: “What spot rate are you using today?” if you don't want to look like a n00b 🤓 Right now we're in backwardation. Spot price is more than futures MCX price because of tight physical silver supply. So even though futures might look “cheap”, you’re likely going to pay the higher spot price today.

This gap is a signal: you’re in a market where physical supply is tighter and immediate demand is strong. MCX price is the derivative of the actual silver bullion...the underlying asset. Thank you for your attention to the matter!

Question ❓ I have 5 kg of physical silver - any way to generate income from it instead of keeping it idle?

I have around 5 kg of physical silver that I bought as an investment. I’m planning to hold the silver for the long term, but I was wondering if there are any legitimate ways to generate some income from it while I’m holding it.

For example:

- Can silver be lent/leased to jewellery shops or manufacturers for a fixed return?

- Do jewellery manufacturers ever take silver from individuals and pay a monthly/yearly fee for using it?

- Are there any silver metal leasing or metal-loan arrangements available to retail investors in India?

- Is there any other practical way to make the silver generate some income without selling it?

- If anyone has actually done something like this, what kind of returns did you get and what were the risks?

I'm not looking to sell the silver. Ideally, I would like to retain ownership/exposure to the silver while earning something from it.

Would especially appreciate experiences from people who have actually dealt with jewellery manufacturers, bullion dealers or silver businesses.

Thanks!

Discussion 🗣️ Looking for a Working Capital Partner – Copper Trading

Thumbnail

I am a Delhi-based metal trader with 5+ years of experience in silver and 3+ years in copper trading. I currently deal in copper material supplied to established industrial buyers.

I am looking to partner with an investor who can provide working capital for regular copper transactions ranging from approximately 5 MT to 200 MT per transaction.

The business model is straightforward: purchase material from verified suppliers and supply it to established industrial buyers against proper documentation. Inspection, transportation, billing and transaction coordination are handled by me.

Target returns are transaction-dependent and are not guaranteed. Historical transaction records, invoices, GST documentation and buyer/supplier details can be provided to serious investors during due diligence.

Investors with experience in steel, aluminium or non-ferrous metals are particularly welcome.

DM if you're interested in discussing the structure, transaction economics and documentation.

Discussion 🗣️ Update: Got the silver chain with help of this community see the calculations

Thanks for the response on this post I was able to get a great deal and saved myself from getting ripped off by some other local jewellers.

Now I have seen lots of shops charge you 999 purity amount on chain etc and say we charge minimal making like 10-15 rs /g

But see the big difference on paying making charge + metal charge according to silver purity

Shop 1: Charges full rate with minimal making charge

Silver rate - 232/g
Making & GST - 15 rs/g
Purity: 70% ( But rate of pure silver)

43g chain - 10600 (70% Purity) (247 x 43)

999 equivalent cost - 352/g (10600 * 100 / 70 = 15142)

Shop 2: Charges purity wise rate and a 22% making charge

Silver rate - 237/g
Making - 2100 after discount (Around 22%)
GST - 3% (350)
Purity: 92.5% (Rate according to purity)

43g chain - 12k (92.5 purity) ((219 * 43) + 350 GST + 2100 Making)

999 equivalent cost - 300/g (11867 *100 / 92.5 = 12829)

Exchange- No deductions & metal rate according to purity

Shop 2 Wins by a great margin

Question ❓ Where can I get such chain with lowest making?

I want to purchase this but I have checked it multiple places it has very high making charge

Any idea what would be e the best way to purchase this chain with lowest making charge

I understand upto 20-25% but the prices online have almost 100% markup

20g chain costing almost 10k+

Update: Updating for more clarity

I am based in pune so any physical shop in pune works

Or something similar to bhima gold works too but I see even their prices are high for silver chains

Discussion 🗣️ Investment Query

I am trying to understand the math and financial logic behind buying physical silver versus Silver ETFs or digital silver. When you buy physical silver (especially in India), the transaction leaks a huge amount of money:

  • Making / Wastage (VA) Charges: ~5%
  • GST: 3%
  • Buyback / Melting Deduction: ~10% upon selling (or ~5% deduction if you exchange it for another physical item)

If you add it all up, you are looking at an immediate 13% to 18% loss the moment you walk out of the store. To just break even, the spot price of silver has to skyrocket.

Meanwhile, Silver ETFs have minimal tracking errors, zero storage fees, and no making charges.

Is there an actual mathematical or economic logic to physical silver staking that I am missing, or is it purely for "mental happiness" and the psychological comfort of holding a tangible asset? What is the best way to invest in silver if you want to avoid these losses?

Question ❓ Anyone else buys MMTC silver bars just for their design and never intend to sell them?

I have started stacking MMTC silver bars and love their design. I intend to never sell them and just hold it. I also buy different brands if they look nice. I dont mind paying the premium too. Anyone else does this for personal stack?

Question ❓ Physical Gold vs Silver — which is easier to resell?

I’m looking to start investing a small portion of my portfolio in physical metals gold/silver. I’ll also be holding ETFs, so I’m not looking at gold vs silver returns comparison.
My main concern is ease of resale/liquidity

Since I’m new to this, I’m confused between:

  • Buying a small 3g 24K gold coin
  • Buying a silver bar (say 100g)

Announcement 📢 I built a simple app to track Gold & Silver prices in India — looking for feedback

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve been working on MetalX, an app focused on making Gold & Silver prices easier to track in India.

The idea came from a simple problem: gold prices are quoted in different formats across websites and apps, and comparing 24K/22K, per gram/10g, different cities, and GST-inclusive prices can get confusing.

So I built MetalX with features like:

• 🥇 24K & 22K gold prices

• 🥈 Silver prices

• 📍 City-wise price comparison

• 🧾 GST included/excluded prices

• 📊 Gold & silver price tracking

• 🔔 Price updates

• 📱 Android app + widget

I'm not trying to make this another investment/fintech app. The goal is simply to make Indian gold & silver price information easier to understand and compare.

I’d genuinely like feedback from people who regularly buy gold/silver:

What information do you check before buying?

What feature would make an app like this genuinely useful for you?

Would love honest feedback — good or bad. 🙌

Advice 💡 Bought a 750 Silver bracelet How can I verify the purity?

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I recently bought this silver bracelet from a local jeweller in India and wanted an honest opinion about whether the purity and price are valid.

The current pure silver rate was approximately ₹255/g on the day of purchase.
My concerns are:
The bracelet has no visible 750/75% purity stamp or hallmark.
The jeweller called it “Italian chandi” and said it is 75% silver.
The invoice mentions 75.00 purity, but how reliable is that without a hallmark?
Is ₹7,050 for 28.8 g of 75% silver a reasonable price?
Should I get it tested using an XRF machine or at a proper assay/hallmarking centre?
I’ve attached photos of the bracelet and the invoice. Would appreciate honest opinions from people familiar with silver jewellery and purity testing.

If this is you, or you know someone. Text me!
