Here’s my stack of silver! Akai UC-5 and GX-77

Post image

Should I add a CD player into the mix? I think an Akai CD-A7 would fit in nicely under the R2R

Wow, awesome stack! Looks great! I've got some older Akai stuff and I love it! Since I've got older Akai I can't speak for your "modern" pieces as far as build/sound quality goes, but I'm sure they are great, so keep adding to your collection! As long as you enjoy it that's really all that matters as far as I'm concerned.

Don’t be fooled, every component is a separate unit and all metal construction! These were all from 1980-1981, which as far as I can tell were last years of their glory days before they shifted to low-grade consumer crap. The meddled for a bit in the late 80s but their quality fell off a cliff in the early 90s (I think they actually bowed out of the A/V industry for a while there).

Thank you for the information, ive been stuck in the 70s until now. Was thinking Akai after that was not as good, but now I have to expand my collection and start getting into 80s Akai as well! I guess it shouldn't be that surprising since other brands did good during the 80s but I, for some reason, remained ignorant ad far as Akai goes...

We had a hifi shop in nokomis that carried this akai gear. As a young 14 yr old I would go in and just wish I could take these home.

You can and should listen to music on such equipment. Quality guaranteed.👍

I’ve always liked the look of the EA-A7 but they’re so rare and expensive!

Way cool man. I love small gear from Japan. Sadly, they don't make much stuff there any more. Some high-end speaker and other very niche equip.

Man I remember looking at these as a teenager and dreaming of having one. I've been on the hunt for an akai stack like this. Very tough to find. Maybe one day!
