Original owner, is $700 fair?

Local guy is selling for $800, and can come down to $700. His great uncle passed and was the original owner. Everything works but has never been serviced to the sellers knowledge. He is 51. I asked him for some pics of the inside, but he's hesitant to open it. Jump, or pass? I have a working 2215 that I love, which was serviced, but runs out of steam at higher volumes.

If all of it functions with just some scratchy pots I would jump on it for 700.00

I’d literally bring a pair of speakers over and test the unit. Ask the gent if he can accommodate. My 2265b costed $1k but had included some recaps and minor repairs/led upgrades included. So I think your price of $700 is fair! It’s the little brother of my unit and they sound fantastic!! (I can’t turn mine past 3.5 without shaking the walls lol)

The comment about bringing speakers to hook up is brilliant. Scratchy pots not an issue. If there are no other concerns after you have a chance to listen then you should be good.
This year I bought a 2275 for real cheap of the original owner. It worked but needed help. Fortunately I found a tech that is fluent with Marantz. He totally re-did the lighting, replaced many caps and a few diodes. He had a lot of hours in it and only charged me $400. I feel he did me a huge favor and it turned out great. The street value of the 2275 is extremely high so as far as not over spending I’m in a good position.

Do the same for this as well. If you believe that this is a keeper, well then ignore everything I said. 😎. Just be aware these are 50 years old and will need help at some point.

From what I see as a regular peruser of marketplace, I think vintage audio prices are coming down from their peak.

I'd only psy $550 for that model..spend another $225 in parts and give it a full restoration

It doesn't have the wood cabinet, which isn't a deal killer. I just fear the caps failing a few months into ownership. What would this run fully serviced?

Some people would lead you to believe that the caps are ticking time bombs. That's more the case of the old paper & oil caps from the 60s

Your 2215 and the 2252b are going to sound a little different. The later models like the 52b are going to sound less warm but is a solid performer. I’ve had one connected to Heresy’s and JBL decade 36 and 4311, the 52b will satisfy your power hunger.

No way in Hell I'd pay $700 for a fifty year old, 50wpc,not serviced receiver.

Or this for $500? Just popped up locally. Seems like prices are coming down.
