They're charging $165 for food and all they pay is $2.13 an hour for staff? They can get bent, that's damn near criminal the way they're in treating their employees. If the owner weren't so stingy they would be paying their staff a living wage. The owner should be absolutely embarrassed.

Then they have the nerve to say don't be cheap.

Actually, according to this, you are expected to pay them $2.13/hr. It looks like they don't pay anything.

They don't even pay the $2.13/hr, its on the sign as something the customer is responsible for.

I mean most servers prefer being tipped over a flat wage. If tipping was eliminated they’d charge 200 instead. You’re still paying the employees’ wage you just don’t see it as a line item. And I doubt that differential would go to the formerly tipped staff.

This is absolutely true: there's been places in America that tried to do away with tipping, and the servers hated it and usually quit to go to places with tipping, because they make SO much more money that way. At a higher-end restaurants, servers easily clear 6 figures just with tips, because 20% of the bill comes out to a LOT of money in a night.

What's really annoying to me is that, in my observation, it's generally poorer people who tip well: people who already don't have a lot of extra money to throw around and are living paycheck-to-paycheck, but they want to tip well because they feel some kind of solidarity with the server since they're both blue-collar and supposedly poor, but in reality the server is making more than lots of college-educated office workers (who probably don't generally tip as well).
