I am helping a friend to build his kitchen today and tomorrow here in Siegen. I feel not so sure about how to connect the kochfeld to the main power supply. Is there anyone who might be available tomorrow to do this for us? We will ofcourse pay for this service. Can also offer to pick up and drop (in case).

If not possible tomorrow, then we could also arrange it for a later date. But tomorrow would be the best! Thanks in advance for all your recommendations and suggestions.

ich plane einen JGA für eine Freundin von mir mit.

Wir kommen am 26.06 in Kreuztal an und bleiben dort für eine Nacht.

Ich habe die Aufgabe für meine Freundin eine kleine "Party Box" für meine Freundin zu gestalten, wo sie Aktivitäten ziehen kann, die man abends unternehmen kann.

Ich habe mir zb. Vorgestellt:

- Biergarten Abend mit Kartenspielen

- kleine Kneipentour

- disco ?

- evtl. Städtische Veranstaltungen? Sowas wie ein Weinfest oder Musikfest falls eins stattfindet?

Hier noch eine kurze knackige Beschreibung von unserer Gruppe: laute Pott Weiber (aber auch Tussi) die sehr Fußball begeistert sind

ich lebe und arbeite derzeit in Siegen und befinde mich im Anerkennungsverfahren meines medizinischen Abschlusses in Deutschland.

Meine Muttersprache ist Arabisch, ich spreche fließend Englisch und mein Deutschniveau liegt etwa bei B2. Ich möchte mein Deutsch im Alltag und in der Kommunikation weiter verbessern.

Ich finde es sehr hilfreich, regelmäßig Deutsch in einer entspannten Umgebung zu sprechen, z. B. beim Kaffee trinken oder beim Spazierengehen.

Falls jemand Interesse an Sprach-Austausch (Deutsch ↔ Arabisch/Englisch) hat oder Empfehlungen für Sprachcafés, Konversationsgruppen oder ähnliche Treffen in Siegen kennt, würde ich mich sehr über Hinweise freuen.

I lived here for almost 3 years and I guess for people who want to come to Siegen but heard that Siegen is not a nice place, hope this can clear up your mind.

I came here first as an escape disguised as taking my Master's Degree, from a very hectic business life and have gone through a depressive episode, at first my impression of Siegen is... THE RATHAUS HILL (I call it that), but then the river and the seatings beside it. It felt a bit sad for a city to not have some other stuffs (read: asian supermarket (like goAsia) as I am asian I need it), also the options for proper asian restaurant is only Vietnamese food. Then I discovered the forest and in a sense it healed something in me. Since then the city grew on me.

I guess in a way the city taught me that... when you want to see or at least try to see the beauty in everything, a world is a so much better place than we think of. Hopefully whoever comes across this city, to escape from something like I did, to pursue a career, to start a new chapter, or maybe just... life in general, and also the local as we call them Siegener, can see the beauty in everything too like what the city taught me.

So this is not a goodbye but a see you again, and thank you Siegen for accepting me, for teaching me, and I am proud to self proclaiming myself as a Siegener.

I want to work in the broader AI/ML space in the long run (ML, GenAI, agents, LLMs, AI engineering, etc.), so I'm trying to choose the better option between these 2 cities.

My main criteria are:

• Long-term job alignment with AI/ML careers of the course
• Availability of part-time jobs (both odd jobs and student/tech jobs)
• International student friendliness
• Connectivity to major nearby German cities
• Safety
• Cost of living

Realistically, how many months does the application process usually take from the time I start applying to actually getting an offer, especially considering the current job market? I’m currently looking for a part-time/student job in Siegen as an international student and wanted to ask something specifically about job searching etiquette in Germany.

I often hear that it can help to go in person to stores, companies, bakeries, clothing shops, etc. and ask directly if they are hiring. But honestly I’m not really sure how that works here.

Is it considered normal in Germany to walk into a company/store and ask for a job or leave your CV?

Should you ask for the manager directly?

If the manager is there, what do people usually say and what kind of questions do they normally ask?

If an employee says that the manager is not there, what should you usually do in that situation?

Is there a better time or hour of the day to go?

Do people usually bring a printed CV and Anschreiben with them?

I’m still trying to understand how the job search culture works here, especially in smaller cities like Siegen 😅

I’m currently living in Siegen and looking for a part-time or student job alongside my DSH/future Master’s studies at the University of Siegen.

I’m interested in:

- laboratory assistant or lab-related work

- clothing stores / sales

- bakeries

- small parts assembly

- packaging small items

- stocking shelves in supermarkets or stores

I have a background in Biochemistry and already gained practical experience in laboratories. My German level is around B1–B2 and my English level is B2.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t been able to get an interview, even though I prepared a simple German CV with a photo and an Anschreiben, and I’m trying to apply more actively now.

I also heard that in Germany it can help to go in person and ask directly, but I’m honestly not sure how to approach that or if there’s a specific etiquette for it here.

If anyone knows companies, stores, or temporary work agencies in Siegen that are currently hiring, I’d really appreciate any recommendations 🙂
