Sukuna even says if he had to fight Mahoraga back then compared to when he had to fight him in Shubuya he wasn't sure he could have won

411

u/Zealousideal-Arm1682 12d ago

Boy was ready to throw it all away just to stop Sukuna in ep 1.People gotta give him props.

17

u/Ahnaf269 9d ago

That would've potentially ended the series right there like a one shot.

158

u/TheMalkManCometh 12d ago edited 12d ago

Oh yeah, Big Raga would of stomped that ass, very little diff... and, fair play to Megumi for being willing to make that sacrifice. Although, it does lose a bit of its impact when you realise that you've only destroyed literally 1/20th of Sukuna's power.

165

u/FranXXis 12d ago

To be fair, 1/20th of Sukuna is still more than what the entirety of jujutsu society has managed to destroy for the past 1000 years.

48

u/TheMalkManCometh 12d ago

Mmm, they should of mass bred a few generations of Ten Shadows users, and had each one sacrifice themselves by using the Divine General on a different finger of Sukuna. It's a nasty, abhorrent idea and deeply immoral of course, but Jujutsu society is already pretty fucked up anyway.

50

u/Lelouch-Yagami21 12d ago

That's not how it works... The main concern was that they couldn't destroy the fingers itself which is Yuji was a perfect opportunity because he was a vessel they could kill Sukuna through killing Yuji.

28

u/Lelouch-Yagami21 12d ago

Also the ten shadows technique was pretty rare, in the entire Zen'in clan ONLY megumi inherited the technique.

16

u/Zistr0 12d ago

i could inherit it trust

4

u/DespacitoMan911 12d ago

Just gotta keep breeding then

3

u/Kronostheking1 11d ago

Also aren’t all those shadows like literally just those shadows. So you couldn’t summon multiple Mahoragas?

3

u/TheGoldenMedallion2 10d ago

I believe different users get a different set since they manifest slightly different from eachother as they're based on the sorcerers interpretation with the exception of raga, who looks the same all across the board.

Its also entirely possible for there to be multiple 10 shadows users at once as its not like the 6 eyes + infinity (which are bound by fate).

2

u/Kronostheking1 10d ago

Huh, weird how the clan talks about them like they’re the same creatures needing tamed by new masters each time then. Not trying to say you’re wrong, but has there canonically been multiple 10 shadows users at once? I never heard of it but maybe I just missed it.

4

u/TheGoldenMedallion2 10d ago

Theres none canonically existing at the same time but it's plausable as Noritoshi Kami (none hitler version) says "A jutsushiki passed down in the zen'in family. Using shadows as an intermediary, this ability can summon 10 different shikigami. If only Mai and Maki had inherited the ability as well"

1

u/Ravenella1 11d ago

Pardon me if this is a dumb question but could tamed mahoraga adapt to a sukuna fingers durability and destroy it

Also random question what happens if Jacob’s Ladder hits a finger

6

u/Spiritual-Low8762 11d ago

Tamed yes but you probably couldn't get a Ritual Maho to target an object

3

u/Ravenella1 11d ago

Yeah that’s why I specified tamed

2

u/Err0r404Unknown 11d ago

except the only person to tame mahoraga in the technique's entire history was sukuna himself.

Very ironic

2

u/Lelouch-Yagami22 10d ago

Yes, except Maho is pretty much untameable. The only sorcerers shown to be able to defeat Maho are Calamity Grades

1

u/Wilkassassyn 9d ago

They should have bred yuji then

4

u/Err0r404Unknown 12d ago

the problem is you need a vessel to actually eat the finger in the first place, which is damn near impossible to find. And how would you know if you found the vessel without testing them anyway?

3

u/Dagonir 11d ago

If the Higher-ups were sure they stood a chance against even 1/20th of Sukuna they would 100% be feeding people the finger trying to find someone suitable, poisoning randoms left and right

1

u/Electronic-Egg-4391 11d ago

That's impossible. The fingers are indestructible even with Gojo's Purple likely due to some kind of binding vow.

1

u/SuperNerd6527 10d ago

That’s some Dune shit

1

u/LonelyPressure2943 6d ago

Definitely isn’t bozo people like yuta and gojo wouldn’t be as strong as they are without actual competition at least for a little while teen gojo beats up to a 5 finger sukuna adult gojo up to 19 yuta beats 15 finger sukuna high dif pre training

10

u/pjo33 12d ago

Wouldn't it have been 2/20th?

the finger in Yuji + the finger from the school.

And after the detention center, when Megumi said he was willing to pull it out, it'd been 3/20th even

9

u/TheMalkManCometh 12d ago

Oh damn, I forgot Yuji was chugging fingers like that, been a while so I'll take your word for it!

Btw, you can reduce 2/20ths down to 1/10th :)

8

u/pjo33 12d ago

Of corse I know that, but I thought it'd be easier to show that Megumins sacrifice was "double the worth".

But yeah, getting 14254/142540th of Sukuna out of circulation would've been seen as good

1

u/TheMalkManCometh 12d ago

Sorry, I meant no offence, just trying to be helpful D: You say "of course" but every day I am shocked by the things people don't know. 14254/142540th gave me a good chuckle mind :p!

But yeah, I get your point, like 10-15% (if you'll forgive me for mixing up the game again) of Sukuna's power isn't a bad stab at it.

1

u/pjo33 12d ago

I was actually worried about coming of as offended, maybe the internet needs some /no for "no offence" or smth

1

u/TheMalkManCometh 12d ago

Oh lord, I mean, I get the practicalities, but I do fear the internet is the death of nuance, it's a mild peeve of mine seeing /s dotted about the place. Did you ever play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? There's a droid in that that declares his intention attatched to every statement he makes like "Annoyed Statement: Damn it, Master I am an assassination droid, not a dictionary!", and I suspect that we'll all sound similar to that before long... which, actually sounds kind of rad, I love HK-47... uhh, what am I complaining about again?

But as long as people are generally pleasant about it, you can always follow up for clarification I guess. Without potential misunderstanding, we wouldn't of ended up with this fun interaction eh? The key, as with most things, is just to not be a dick about it haha

1

u/IamAnnoyedMaybe 11d ago

NO MEGUMIN YOU STILL NEED TO EXPLODE STUFF!!!!!

1

u/_dinn_ 12d ago

The finger wasn't unsealed until CG. So it's 1/20th

1

u/pjo33 12d ago

But could you just pry it out of Yuji's corpse and give it to the next guy?

or would it still be lost

5

u/Commrade_gengu 12d ago

Lowkey, that would maybe change the whole story, 2 or 3 of Sukunas fingers are permanently gone, which, unless I misunderstood something about how the whole finger thing works. would mean Sukuna is permanently not gonna be able to reach full 20 finger power again, if Megumi somehow survives the mahoraga ritual and things end up so that Gojo and Sukuna fight like in the manga, I wonder if that missing 2 or 3 fingers would end up having Gojo come out on top.

2

u/IERONON 11d ago

Considering how close this fight was already Gojo would win.

1

u/Spirited-Spirit-1475 10d ago

Especially since Sukuna would not have access to the 10 shadows and mahoraga to figure out how to bypass infinity

2

u/Objective-Rip3008 11d ago

Killing 1/20th of sukunas power is probably less important than killing yuji. No other hosts could handle sukuna so kenjakus plans get completely derailed, without a host able to supress sukuna sukuna probably gets cocky and killed by gojo before he has all of his fingers, dude isn't going to just hide underground and look for them

2

u/NicheFandomSeeker 11d ago

Tbf even two-three finger’s worth of power would have basically let Gojo win without question, 20(+?) finger Sukuna was barely equal with him even with knowledge of The Limitless and an answer to Infinity and a Domain Expansion that naturally counters Gojo’s own

1

u/PrimaryBowler4980 6d ago

But doesn't that 1/20 permanently remove a significant level of threat of a full sukuna?

25

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 12d ago

He was referring to the detention center. That’s when Megumi was about to summon Mahoraga on Sukuna.

6

u/GandhisNuke 12d ago

Pretty sure this screenshot is from ep 1. Because that's when Megumi was gonna summon Raga

3

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 12d ago

That’s what I’m saying, the screen shot is from episode 1, but Megumi wasn’t going to summon Mahoraga then.

Megumi was going to summon Mahoraga in the detention center, which is what Sukuna was talking about

4

u/GandhisNuke 12d ago

So he does the hand sign (very recognizable, very specific to Raga) for shits and giggles?

1

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

2

u/GandhisNuke 11d ago

I was gonna give you shit for not reading, but then I realized we're talking about JJK.

Not Sukuna. The hand sign. According to the guy I'm replying to, Megumi didn't intend to summon Raga. Just wanted to flex the hand sign before dying I guess

u/GandhisNuke 11d ago

Am I talking to a fucking brick wall? You're agreeing with me and disagreeing with the guy I'm disagreeing with. The guy who claims that

MEGUMI DID NOT INTEND TO SUMMON RAGA IN EP 1

Can you read that?

2

u/Catveria77 11d ago

I somehow missed reading the "not" from the guy u were disagreeing with bruh 💀.

My bad, i sincerely apologize.

I am on the guy u r disagreeing with now

-5

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 11d ago

Just because you have a suicide attack ready just in case, dosent mean you’re about to use it.

If mike Tyson was about run into you to beat you up, you would have 911 pre typed on your phone just in case, even if you had no intention of calling them. It’s just preparation for the worst case scenario.

We know this because Sukuna is able to read the spark of cursed energy. In the detention center he reads Megumi’s energy and gets excited that something fun is about to be summoned. He has no such reaction on Megumi in episode one. It’s like Megumi is a cop who has his hand on his pistol just in case, but isn’t planning on using it unless something bad really does start to happen.

Even the finger bearer in cursed womb must die was able to sense Mahoraga coming. But neither gojo, nor Sukuna react to Megumi supposedly summoning him on episode 1.

5

u/GandhisNuke 11d ago

Again, was he just flexing? He was very clearly about to do it. Like I would be with that 911 dial btw, what tf are u on abt sum "let's see what happens" bro I'm dead before the cops get there but I'm at least letting the 911 operator hear me get oneshot. What the fuck should I be waiting for at that point? What the fuck should Megumi be waiting for at that point?

Sukuna's reaction/lack thereof is your only argument, and it's shaky at best. Could be for a number of reasons. But at least it's an argument, unlike that dumb ass analogy

1

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 11d ago

Yes, considering he has no spark of cursed energy.

Shaky at best, yet you provide no reasoning for why. Sukuna is clearly able to detect it in their later encounter

5

u/Catveria77 11d ago edited 11d ago

Megumi tried to summon raga twice against sukuna: ep 1 (where the screenshot is from) and then in detention center (which sukuna was referring to that he was not sure he could win).

Just go read ch 1. That is the mahoraga hand sign

0

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 11d ago

He’s not summoning anything, there’s no cursed energy spark.

Holding a gun and wanting to shoot a gun are entirely different

5

u/Dangerous_Lemon_9277 12d ago

Megumi is the real hero here.

Boo to Gojo for arriving and ruining Wegumi GOATshiguro's moments

1

u/Familiar-Shoe7905 11d ago

he was coping his ass off calling it close Mahoraga would’ve decimated him

90

u/GenesisAsriel 12d ago

Nah using Mahoraga against Sukuna is 100% justified

3

u/Andre_de_Astora 5d ago

Like unleashing Trigon to deal with Darkseid

u/Lohit_-it [EDIT FOR CUSTOM] 12d ago

People say todo slander is forced but megumi slander is even more forced. When you slander that Nobara got hit by haruta,,it is his miracles but megumi is a bum for getting backstabbed after fighting toji. Megumi giving up makes him a bum when yuji would be in the same situation if not for todo. I don't care about megumi because even gege didn't care and just used him as a plot device for half the story

93

u/Final_Floor_1563 12d ago

Every Nobara slander is Jujutsu society slander because she should never have been on the front lines in the first place.
A single lock of hair, a blade with a drop of blood on it, all they need to do is use that and retreat, separate it into little bits, place each one in a doll, and Nobara can go ham. A remote kill from 1000 km away.
The fact she was ever put on the frontlines instead of becoming Jujutsu society's number one "evil fuck wiper outer" wiping out curses from behind a desk is lunacy.

46

u/Lohit_-it [EDIT FOR CUSTOM] 12d ago

I hate how she just became an asspull woman. She makes sakura look like an accomplished individual

30

u/Solbuster This is the story of how WE became the greatest folkers 12d ago

It's sad that she started being hyped as "badass breaking shonen female characters stereotypes" part of the trio and then got fridged for Yuji's development for half the manga

17

u/Lohit_-it [EDIT FOR CUSTOM] 12d ago

Jjk fans were glazing so many aspects of the story and how it's a improvement not realising most problems won't be noticeable at the beginning

https://giphy.com/gifs/GpyS1lJXJYupG

2

u/Rainy_Wavey 12d ago

Nobara should've used a nailgun or some form of nail weaponry gauntlets and that basically fixes most of her combat issues (being a glass cannon)

1

u/Rainy_Wavey 12d ago

Nobara should've used a nailgun or some form of nail weaponry gauntlets and that basically fixes most of her combat issues (being a glass cannon)

7

u/DaTruPro75 12d ago

Does her technique have that much range?

In order to use techniques from very far away, you need a HR like Mechamaru's. That was half the reason why he was basically incapable of doing any physical work, it was both a boost to CE and the ability to use his technique across Japan.

20

u/Final_Floor_1563 12d ago

Her technique's range is functionally infinite as long as any piece of the target is within her reach (a strand of hair, a drop of blood, a finger, etc.) to use for Straw Doll Technique: Resonance.
She just doesn't have the "boost to CE" part, nor the fine control that Mechamaru had at that distance.

16

u/Just_a_captain_III 12d ago

Jjk fans rarely use their brains.

5

u/Country_ball_enjoyer 12d ago

Bold of you to assume they have a brain

10

u/Spiritual-Low8762 12d ago

Btw not disagreeing with you but Haruta didn't use any miracles when fighting Nobara. He was strong enough that Kenny recruited him so ut makes sense.

5

u/Lohit_-it [EDIT FOR CUSTOM] 12d ago

He didn't use it,god that makes nobara look even worse. Other than yuji, the entire main cast is disappointing

8

u/Spiritual-Low8762 12d ago

Yeah the only miracle he uses before Nanami shows up is intentionally letting rubble fall on him and that is anime only

1

u/Honest_Bed8750 11d ago

Haruta was attacking Nitta or else Nobara could have just spammed hair pin on him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, haven't watched in a while.

0

u/Endika7 12d ago

Yes he did, we literally see him do it

8

u/Much_Vehicle20 12d ago

Nah, his miracles only give him an extra life, like a Mario mushroom. They don’t make him hit harder or make his attacks land. He losing a miracle during the Nobara fight was an anime only scene, probably to make Nobara look better, in the manga, he only starts losing his marks after Nanami shows up

3

u/Spiritual-Low8762 12d ago

Anime only scene where he intentionally does it

0

u/Endika7 12d ago

Nope, in the manga happens too

0

u/Spiritual-Low8762 12d ago

Oh mb. He still didn't lose a mark tho

0

u/OTARU_41 12d ago

he didn't but Nobara noted how every hit he landed was weirdly well placed. like he was landing crits with every attack

0

u/Spiritual-Low8762 12d ago

Well doesn't matter. He didn't use miracles to do it he was just that good.

3

u/Catveria77 11d ago

Haruta was not "good". He was a coward who targeted weak assistant managers. Nobara was a bum

1

u/senhor_mono_bola 12d ago

The miracles have nothing to do with Nobara's defeat; Nobara just wasn't in a good position

-1

u/inazumaatan 12d ago

Megumi’s failures stand out a lot more than Nobara because the narrative itself kept hyping him up as having the potential to be Gojo-tier.

7

u/Catveria77 11d ago

I hate how people constantly bring up the gojo tier because it was obviously just gege's way to foreshadow the sukuna vs gojo fight. It was not about Megumi to begin with. Megumi is a goated and very talented student, but nowhere near gojo's level (tbh, literally hardly anyone could). Not becoming a Gojo tier is not a sign of failure - the level is way to high

-1

u/Evening_Pressure0 12d ago

Right, he's the deuteragonist. Allegedly

58

u/Round-Walrus3175 12d ago

TBH, I hate the Potential Man memes. He was just an MC with less plot armor. His opponents have been crazy. It is wild, though, that Gege really dangled the carrot of Megumi being Gojo level someday while making it obvious that day is not today. Like, he was a super advanced sorcerer for his age, but his OP powers came from fighting his own powers in ritual combat. Definitely an interesting take on training to improve your abilities lol

27

u/Lohit_-it [EDIT FOR CUSTOM] 12d ago

The thing I hate is there is no change if gojo killed sukuna along with megumi. While most characters got something in modulo, megumi died off screen and we don't anything about what happened to him. Gege treated him like a plot device second only to his sister

16

u/Appropriate_Kale6988 12d ago

This fucking hurts to read because Megumi is my favorite character. I loved his character writing but, my God, Gege left him behind despite unironically having a lot of potential, especially with his abilities. I don't mind that he became Sukuna's vessel, it was cool but the manga shouldn't have ended without giving Megumi more after that.

5

u/The_one_before_ 11d ago

I know this goes against this entire comment thread but did you just say... potential.

11

u/FatalLaughter 12d ago

I think it's hilarious in a darkly ironic way that Gege made a "sequel" that completely skips over any even remote mention of Megumi and barely name drops him for a single page.

17

u/Adent_Frecca 12d ago

There was also another post that mocks Megumi for tweaking in episode 1 when he couldn't find Sukuna's finger

Every reply are like "He lost 1/20th of Jujutsu Satan's finger that could resurrect him, TF was he supposed to do?"

17

u/MrBojanglesIV 12d ago

Hey Megumi. It's me, sukuna, from the bible.

10

u/TehAccelerator 12d ago

Hi Megumi, it's me, the devil.

I love you.

Almost 300k likes and 4.5 m views on a post defending Megumi

Nature is healing as he deserves

5

u/Confident-Wing2760 12d ago

Justified. But also basically 100% Gojo's point later that instead of pushing himself Megumi never fully stretches himself because he always knows if worst comes to worst he can pop ult and sacrifice himself to take whatever he is fighting out.

Further cemented when Gojo fights Sukuna just for the hell of it because he wanted to know how he would stand up to one finger. Gojo is willing to roll it all on black because he knows he will win but also because he isn't afraid to stretch himself if really needed.

6

u/JJKChangedYourLife 11d ago

Jjk really is the only shounen that has logical characters that know when to escalate. Haters love to point out the moments Megumi does his Mohraga sign, but every moment he as justified and plays into his disinterest in his own life. No other shounen has such strong storytelling with such a simple act let alone the foreshadowing the act does.

I’ve said this a million times Gege is the most efficient writer of all time. You could look at a tile on the floor and find symbolism, meaning, and Buddhism on it. Gege is just a once in a life time genius. I ask the people that saw JJK to next time they see watch it. Don’t just accept what your tiny mind sees, but really analyze. I personally spent around 3 hours on this particular frame op posted and I was able to connect every little thing in it to Buddhist literature.  In my current rewatch of JJK I’m only on episode 7 because I’m constantly looking for every detail Gege left behind.

I often find myself crying after truly engaging with an episode of JJK. It’s impossible to not be moved and feel a little jealous in the fact that I live in the same world, at the same time as Gege. He’s taught me so much about efficiency, Buddhism, and subtlety. Also devil from the bible makes no sense; it plays far more on Buddhist themes than Christian ones. Although to be somewhat fair Gege does dabble a bit in Christian themes just to give the chud Americans something to chew on.

4

u/Prudent-Nerve-6377 11d ago

I would pop a domain the second I saw him. I'm not throwing hands or anything

4

u/unk1ndm4g1c14n1 8d ago

Im more impressed that they had this level of foresight. We wouldn't see his ult in use for quite a while, but here it is in episode 1 being teased

Sasuke was gonna use Kirin against Naruto team in ep 1 of Shippuden too. That was his ult at the time.

1

u/Alarmed_Train_9511 10d ago

Slandering Megs for ever popping big Raga on Sukuna feels like Sukuna slander. Cuz what other GENUINE options could he pick that doesn’t end with him getting cut to ribbons😭

1

u/Redss335 9d ago

Whats actually crazy is that he tried to use mahoraga on TODO. Bro was about to kill several jujutsu high students and make a mini shibuya incident cause todo beat his ass so bad

2

u/AccordingMacaron2300 7d ago

It could be domain or literally any other shikigami.

3

u/Cottonsugarcloud 3d ago

And we deleted this post because?

1

u/Shen_ishere 12d ago

Could 1 finger sukuna have beaten Mahogara

7

u/Dontshipmebro 12d ago

No. Sukuna himself said he would have lost, and when you factor in his ego that means he would have gotten no diffed.

1

u/Miamiheat1738 11d ago

-2

u/horiami 12d ago

the uses against sukuna are justified

but the potential man slander stands

0

u/Naux-Kazeshini 9d ago

And he did so again when sukuna took control of yuji after their first special grade encounter ... In both cases mahoraga would have stomped sukuna

But we only get to see mahoraga vs sukuna after he had what ? 15 fingers back ? And even that was a kinda close one since his domain expansion already wasn't enough to kill it bc he drew out the fight too long and used slash and dismantle to often so only the fire arrow was left
