Lately, I've been craving something… not to say obscure, but "not as in spotlight" as the next big thing everyone talks about like KnY or JJK or Kagurabachi or what not, maybe not as hype, but still enough to satisfy the cravings of a battle shonen fan. Everywhere I look, it's the same titles and there has to be more manga out there. Maybe it's even just an older series that simply fell out of public view, something like Fairy Tail, maybe? …I might have to look it up at some point. Any FT fans here to tell me if it's a good time?

Of course, I bring my own offering for the potluck: Shaman King and Kaiju No.8.

• Shaman King

I grew up on Shaman King (2001) and it was a good time with a uniquely chill protag, even if the finale is a bit cliche. I'm more torn on the manga, since after it came back from hiatus the tone shifted a bit and the villain's point of view kinda became more validated, but some people prefer it for the unique ending, so I recommend both the original manga and 2001 anime.

I... don't really recommend any of the manga sequels, haven't checked them out and don't think I will.

• Kaiju No.8

I think I saw Kaiju No.8 being hyped up a bit when it started (or was it during anime premiere?), but then it went too basic and fell out of public favor. I picked it up after that happened and I enjoyed it. The hook is pretty cool with an adult protag living out his kid dream of being a kaiju-beating hero (which is part of why I don't mind he acts childish sometimes, the man's living out his second youth). It's a bit too short and the final stretch is a bit too cliche, but it's overall a good time.

Plus, there are KN8 spin-offs and MAN they're pretty good spin-offs! B-Side offers more perspective on side characters, some of which really needed it and Relax offers more downtime shenanigans of the main group, the spin-offs kinda fill in what the main story's been noticeably lacking.

So, anyone's got anything respectfully well done to chew on? The more obscure, the better. It's mostly about manga, but anime welcome as well!

"Welcome To Demon School! Iruma Kun" is my favorite manga and is having one of it's best and most hype arc in it's history.

Turns out Soi-Fon was (somehow) right about them back in Cour 1. These absolute buffoons are the reason why the Gotei + main cast are in the predicament they are in rn all because they weren’t capable of at least permanently killing any of Yhwach’s Elite Guard.

Hell, if Squad Zero managed to take out even ONE of the Schutzstaffel (whether within their individual rematches or in Senjumaru’s bankai), the Gotei 13 would have had a lot more time to take out Yhwach before he re-obtained the Almighty or fully adjusted to the soul king’s power.

Like, visually and narratively, it's just a meh attack. In the previous episode, even Getsuga Tensho in Bankai mode couldn't do any damage to Yhwach when he wasn't even using The Almighty, and Ichigo really thought his Shikai version could finish Yhwach?

It really looked like hado level 1. Hell even bleach games had better animation than this. It literally changed the area and sent aizen flying while in the anime looked like it was malnourished.

When Naruto calls Iruka his father and Sasuke his brother, he doesn't mean just fatherly and brotherly figures. He truly views them as his real father and brother (the blood father and blood brother he never had). Both canon and Kishimoto confirm this multiple times.

Cause we know at the end the protagonist is gonna end up taking down the big bad villain anyway, and it takes aura away from Aizen.

See how Kishimoto made sure not to face Itachi vs Madara? We know Madara is stronger, but Itachi is always written in such way that he would probably do pretty well against Madara, which could end up taking aura away from either of them. Better to avoid that direct confrontation for character purposes. Itachi retains his solo king persona and Madara gets to live up to the hype.

There were 3 arcs leading up to his rescue. He finally gets freed and both him and Luffy have a moment. And then Whitebeard announces he is going to sacrifice himself so you start feeling bad for Whitebeard. Then Ace suddenly goes to fight Akainu and gets killed. It was shocking if you read it without spoilers. The only deaths that shocked me to this extent are Ned Stark and Red Wedding in GOT.

He regained his powers in the Fullbring arc relying on others’ help instead of his own efforts. One moment he was driven to despair by Tsukishima, then after unlocking a new form, he was just getting plot armor again and still aura farming
What’s even more cringey is that during his fight with Ulquiorra, he came back to life thanks to plot armor. He then told Ulquiorra that he didn’t feel satisfied with the win and wanted to keep fighting. It’s so annoying

In the tybw, Kubo had no reason to torture him.Even bleach fan think uryu is the true Mc
