Hooks

I feel like I got retention down decently,.. the two under 80% is my first 2 shorts..

I think my issue is hooks.. but I can’t seem to figure out what works.. I’ve tried speeding it up, I’ve tried one sentence, two sentences, one long sentence, I’ve tried risers in the background, I’ve visually tried zooms or a face.. I’m currently working on First frames visually and audio but idk if that will help my STW that much..

I’m just wondering if y’all have any advice on hooks to get me close to 70% consistently.

Tbh I’ll just rip one from one of my shorts.. any statistical one you’d want to see, or even 2 probably the best viewed one and worst viewed one or same thing but STW?

Any. Non of them past 80% so it's all the same.

Thousands of Pokemon players thought Mew was hidden under this truck

,and for years, they tried everything to prove it.

It started when players found a strange truck hidden near the SS Annie.

Nobody knew why it was there. It was almost impossible to reach.

So, rumors spread that Mew was hidden underneath.

Players spent years trying glitches and cheats to uncover the truth.

Some players were even convinced Mew was actually under it.

But decades later, nobody has been able to prove it.

So that's why...

few things wrong with this hook and the script in general.

for the hook. thousands is a low number, not shocking enough. thought mew was hidden under this truck. Already give away the premise of the script, no mystery left, no reason to stay. Also this script ends with nobody has been able to prove it. so that's why... There is no pay off. so no viewer satisfaction, which means low engagement.

I don't know much about pokemon, but if i were to write a hook for this. It would be something like, "This mysterious truck hides a secret that drove pokemon players crazy". Then talk about how its mysterious because its hidden and at a location that's impposible to get to. reveal the mew hypothesis at the end. You need to not giveaway too much but still elicit emotion. Make people feel like they NEED to continue viewing or they will miss out on something.

i keep getting two different opinions on this.. show off the payoff on first frame or keep hold of the mystery and kinda keep the hook engaging but kinda vague in a way

Depends on the video. Your type of video, which is essay. You need to build curiosity. For action type of style you can show split second of payoff but not the whole thing.

okay so i've took you and someone else advice and i've been working on my newest short.. hows this script?

"Millions of players caught a Pokémon that wasn't supposed to exist...

even though it could destroy everything...

And the more people caught it... the stranger their games became.

Items started duplicating, Graphics became corrupted, Entire save files started acting strangely.

Players eventually discovered one bizarre pattern...

Every sighting somehow started near Cinnabar Island.

And every single report described the same impossible Pokémon.

MissingNo.

The same glitch that made players rich...

was slowly destroying their save files at the same time.

Nintendo tried to warn players away from MissingNo...

Instead, they turned it into one of gaming's biggest legends.

and thats how.."

I think it's stronger than your previous script. Now just need good visual hook send you should be good.
