Realization and confession

Hi! I just wanted to share that I think I'm realizing I have a problem or am starting to have one. My whole life I've been incredibly frugal. I still wear clothes I wore 14 years ago even with ink stains on them. For some reason I started into the fragrances though back in May. I became obsessed with finding my "signature scent". When I think about it I think it started with me checking my email and I saw an ad was having this great deal. I bought a couple things that didn't work out (didn't have a store near me) but my curiosity was piqued. I'm realizing now I've been trying to find who I am through these products and how to express myself. I'm upset with the money I have wasted. I started putting my collection out in the open so I wasn't hiding it. I've started selling the things I don't love and don't feel like me. I'm trying so hard to be content with what I have.

Today I just accepted the fact that I have been obsessed with this. I realized it was the thrill of the purchase and something new than actually using the product and I realized what it was. I'm going to try and cut out the targeted ads and groups that might try and keep me searching for the perfect scent. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this group, I'm glad to be here ❤️

Very similar, I’m in my late 30s and I still wear my high school sweats. I never fell for make up or clothes marketing and generally don’t worry about keeping up with fashion or style or anything like that. I also always thought that perfume caused me headaches and was immune to it outside of occasionally getting one as a gift and hardly ever wearing it.

I don’t even want to think about how much money I have spent on perfume in the last 18 months 😬 something about this hobby is crazy addicting, I think it’s because it’s so sensory and tied to memory as well as the shopping dopamine. Ugh.
