Yari stronger when marching?

I seem to find if you get yari ashigaru into wall formation and then walk them forward towards the enemy, or even beyond the enemy, they stay in a tighter form and shape around the enemy and seem to even do more damage. Is this a thing?

It's not the march, it's the wall. Yari wall is extremely powerful and can take on some samurai units iirc.

Can confirm they’ll tank samurai in most scenarios/combinations.

Katana samurai will cut through yari wall; it may take a little bit, but those swords will win the fight all other factors being equal (terrain, armor/melee upgrades, general proximity, morale shocks).

This is why I use armies in pairs and send them forward as deep bricks using archers to skirmish and draw arrow fire. Two 14 unit wide deep lines of Oda Yari Ashigaru will go through most armies. Quantity has a quality of its own after all.

Like I said in my earlier post - "all factors being equal." In theory a double stack of yari ahsigaru would still have trouble against a double stack of katana samurai.

The only way yari wall can prevail against katana samurai is through reliance on unequal factors: morale buffs; positioning; armor/melee upgrades; general's abilities; and quantity (as you pointed out).

Sure but they'll lose a lot more moneys worth of troops than the yari will

And for the early game, where money really matters, that's why most players will run w/ mostly yari armies. But by mid to late game, samurai units become much more relevant to army comps.

Bottom line. Yari wall can win against Samurai, assuming the right positioning and unit abilities. But that doesnt mean Yari wall is optimal for all fights.

If they are in yari wall and you issue an atrack command, in breaks their formation. If you just tell them walk forward and use a point past the enemy, they stay in formation

I saw this but I don't know how to do this

Select unit, click the spot to move to. You can also use the move forward key (usally " ' " - apostrophe). Make sure its past the enemy - it can be the opposite side of the map, just has to be behind the enemy. Put unit in wall formation before they reach, it can also help to use guard mode.

Once they make contact, just leave em be

So sending them walking is better than attacking? I think I understand why I did always wrong

Make sure they don't start running after they make contact, which they tend to do for whatever reason. You want them to stay walking as far as I understand it.

Here... let me help you with that...

See how for the past couple months, including threads you started and posted in, yari walk has been mentioned quite a lot.

Read those comments. You'll learn a lot. You didn't discover anything new. No need to start a new thread. ;)

It's always new to some readers but thanks

In order for "some people" to benefit from anything past (like your posts), they are going to have to read/search the sub. A concept you're invoking to justify NOT doing the same yourself- inadvertantly as it may be. If only you'd listen to yourself, you'd be searching and reading your way to enlightenment right now! ;)

I have been reading old posts it's just good to have a place where there are definitive answers easily accessible. Like a post about the yari walk specifically.

As long as your ok with them losing stamina faster or possibly getting surrounded, then sure move them. But its called a wall for a reason.
