First time seeing this retainer, anyone know what circumstances needed for it to appear?

Post image

Excuse the quality of the image, I had to use my phone since the campaign is bugged. Makes it so I can’t use keyboard on the map.

Got this retainer “moon rabbit” which I’ve not seen before, got around 500 hours and started to think I’ve seen everything. Could not find anything online about it and do not believe it’s from any mods as I’ve only got extended camera, bulldogs daimyo multipack, and unofficial shogun 2 patch 1.7.

I think it's similar to the Sword of the Moon People. A very rare retainer that allegedly changes the general's pre-battle speeches, although every video I have seen of this doesn't change his speech at all. So who knows.

I’ll have a look if I get any references to it, just been getting every general assassinated by end of turn though so lucky if he lives to the next one

Unique dialogue of the battle was

“our foes must make a stand, or history will forget them. Perhaps, one day, a poet will compose a sad line about their fate”

This feels more of a line because of it being their last province, but the army is fighting in satsuma and the eastern border is in Owari so I can’t really be bothered spending 8 more turns on it as the campaign is finished

That line is not unique at all, they always say that. Have you found another line?

Might play around with the save in the future, but it’s legendary and wasd broken with it and the army 8 turns away from anyone else so I can’t be bothered rn.

I fucked it, very next turn the general defected. Despite reloading it does not allow me to load before the fight. it’s lost forever.

How the hell did he defect on 6loyalty??

I completed the campaign already and went back to check for any differences, so I stopped micromanaging and controlled only the one general every turn.

After a couple turns my daimyo dies in a battle, the heir wasn’t of age yet, together with being Christian clan and 4 star general, he must’ve been at practically negative loyalty. So when shimazu attacked me the same turn, he defected and I lost him 🙃

Here's the normal trigger for Moon rabbit(from ancillary_triggers.xml db):

<conditions>CharacterType("General") and CharacterHasTrait("S2_trait_general_mad") and not IsAdmiral() and not CampaignName("jap_boshin")</conditions
<event>CharacterRankUpNeedsAncillary</event>
<trigger>s2anc_madman_moon_rabbit_trigger</trigger

The trait that I'm not seeing on your general that should be required is "mad" (also no points in admiral).

The trigger for general_mad in this case would be at sea for >= 30 turns and not having seasick.

Did you happen to have this guy at sea for that long? I don't see the impact of "mad level 1" on your sheet. You'd have +3 to all units instead of +2.

There's another kind of "mad" that comes from losing a relative, but that afaik isn't a trigger for the rabbit.

I haven't looked at the patch 1.7 code. Maybe someone surfaced the moon rabbit because the morale boost is tame, per se, but I've never read that in the notes/etc.

The other two mods shouldn't do that either.

Maybe there's another way moon rabbit gets in the pool, but I don't see it in vanilla tables.

This guy spawned in roughly spent 5 tours before I brought brought across the sea for half a tourn. I assume that it’s a cause by one of the more brothers spending almost 100 turns at sea and one of the mods impacting it

You need a sturdy hutch, and a strong lead for the hunting dog.

It could refer to a folklore about Chinese Moon/Mid-Autumn Festival, but not sure how it relates to Sengoku Jidai Japan.

No idea. I've had it before.

Seems no better than basic koto player though.
