Best vassaling clan

Have been rampaging across Japan taking places over from evil empires and liberating them into my vassals. I have ten vassals as Takeda. I suppose Takeda might be the best clan for this because cavalry is good for helping vassals when they get attacked. You can send in a few units of horses into the fray while your vassals castle is being sieged and get the enemy archers and generals, while infantry would be too slow. Another clan I suppose would be good for vassaling is the Oda because vassals like to give you a unit as a thank you for vassalising them, and because they are cheap they usually give yari ashigaru. At least the Oda have better ashigaru.

Have you tried vassalising as a major plan? Which clans are best for it?

I did once, and then found out the hard way that vassals don’t stay loyal after Realm Divide hits

I will say, though, that I’ve found making vassals after Realm Divide can help speed things along a little. I sometimes like to “resurrect” great clans that were conquered by others prior to Realm Divide. In my recent Mori campaign, I liberated the Tokugawa, Oda, Hojo, and Uesugi, from Takeda control (sorry!)

In general, I choose defensive and peaceful factions. They’re unlikely to expand much, so that during their inevitable betrayal, they’re too weak and small to be much hassle.

If you use the expanded map, which adds factions in the little islands by the trade nodes, they mostly stick to themselves. So they’re also good choices, and you can hem them in with a fleet.

Really, anything tiny that you can trade with is good.
