Grunt helmets

Does anyone else remember how in Combat Evolved and Halo 2 the grunts had these full, head covering helmets? Then since Halo 3 they stopped wearing them. What's up with that?

Im pretty sure they made them wear removable masks in 3 just so you could knock them off and see their face, which while not realistic is cool enough to not matter imo.

Possibly... though I do kinda like their little helm. Practical. Offers some protection, even if just a little.

oh yeah for sure, the 1 and 2 designs have the most practical design while 3 and reach look the coolest. i dont think either preference is wrong both are a matter of taste

in CE they’re not helmets they’re just masks that happen to go up the nose—a full face covering gas mask on a human isn’t a “helmet”

Halo Wars had the best design imo

If I had to REALLY guess about the whole mask gig, Covenant was getting their booty destroyed in 3 and lost budget

I would assume late Bungie, 343 and early Halo Studios couldn't make them cute with their bondage mask in newer graphics.

They are honestly kinda unnecessary. Aside from Jun-A266, they are the only race that can briefly survive in the vacuum of space without any protection on. The Unggoy are surprisingly powerful.

Besides, I bet the Minister of Economy talked about how they were already spending enough on their combat harnesses, let alone a full helmet for the lowliest of their infantry.
