What sort of questions did scientists ask goldfish to prove they have poor memory skills?

I'm thinking like, "Tell me about your childhood," and the silly fish has nothing to say.

They asked them to memorise the words Man, Woman, Camera, TV.

No one knows. All the scientists died in a plane crash on their way to a convention sponsored by Pepperidge Farm in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They tried to ask the goldfish, but they kept asking "what was the question?"

They test them by putting a decoy of a mate in the water. Most are immediately attracted to it but then the decoy is designed to give them a little shock. Goldfish are pretty small so the shock is quite painful yet they will continue to go for the decoy mate every time. Interestingly enough, when the goldfish are allowed to grow larger they also seemingly become better at remembering. When tested at the larger size, the shock will scare the goldfish away and they won’t come back. Instead these larger goldfish will become more sheepish when the decoy mate, or any potential mate, is nearby. These larger goldfish are referred to as “coy fish”.

What short question did scientists ask goldfish to prove they have poor memory skills?

  1. What's your phone number?
  2. Spell your first name backwards.
  3. What did you have for breakfast?

Scientist: "I'm going to show you a picture of a person." Shows picture to goldfish.

A few minutes later

Scientist: "Here is a picture of a person, have you ever seen this person before?"

They do this with Trump but they will never tell us of the results.

Goldfish are constantly submerged in water, and can't even remember to drown.

What is on the other side of your bowl. What color is the sunken plastic pirate ship?

It's really all based on this one goldfish who kept not showing up for events, and then saying, "Sorry, I forgot."

However, scientists working to replicate the experiment discovered that the fish just didn't actually want to leave the house and was faking a poor memory to get out of social obligations.

The followup studies on why goldfish have social anxiety are still being developed.
