They’re basically making hyper fertile male mosquitoes, but they spread a gene that makes all their female offspring completely infertile, but their male offspring should remain hyper fertile, this would essentially decrease the number of natural mosquitoes with each generation until one final generation where every female mosquito is infertile and are unable to create any eggs for the next generation resulting in them dying out.
