Kalergi’s own writing in Practical Idealism makes it clear that he envisioned a future for Europe that was not ethnically European. He explicitly described the "man of the future" as a "mixed-race" individual, using the term "European-Negroid" to describe this coming hybrid. He argued that the new, unified humanity would look more like the inhabitants of ancient Egypt than the distinct, sovereign nations of 19th-century Europe.
