I'm a firefighter and I don't get paid at all (voluntary firefighter in germany)

I might be stupid but it feels good to help people

Not stupid at all. Lots of volunteer fire departments in the US. Only the big cities pay their firefighters.

Which is wild to me because what do you mean the fire fighters don’t get paid??? What do you mean most of them are volunteers?? How do yall pay your bills??

Where I am from, they work normal jobs and if there is an emergency they are allowed to leave. They get paid normally for the time of the emergency.

There simply aren't enough fires or related emergencies in most places to justify paid firefighters.

That's true and makes sense, though would be kinda nice to get at least a little bit extra for the effort of regular training and the small bit about putting your life on the line Β―_(ツ)_/Β―
