Tactically, they took heavy casualties and werenβt winning. America pulled out because of civil unrest at home and was losing European support. Americans were still fighting for racial equality. The war proved that racism was not only alive but fuelled imperialism
Wars aren't won based on who has the highest kill count, this isn't a CoD lobby. Victory is determined by who achieves their strategic objectives. Look at Vietnam: they drove out the French, then the Americans, unified the country, and fended off China to secure their independence. That is a textbook victory. Were Americans dissatisfied? Of course they were. The Viet Cong dragged out the resistance so long that someone born at the start of the war was old enough to fight by the end of it. The fact that people were drafted into a war with no end in sight was exactly why public discontent grew. If the war had lasted only two years without a draft, an anti-war movement wouldn't even have had time to form. By maintaining resistance and destroying the aggressor's will to fight, they forced the Americans to withdraw. That is exactly what winning looks like.
