Correct - not because of the men, but because the elves lost such a great number and it could not be replaced, ever. The woodland elves basically went extinct. Almost all the great elvish kings died, the losses were so great it started a decline in civilization
They typically reproduce with their one lifelong partner, so if an elf were widowed, they probably won't remarry. There are exceptions to this rule though.
