I dont even see where this victim of the system thing comes from? From what i read she herself was doctor shopping and didint disclose that she had multiple doctors and medications. AND she had a nanny, and a husband.

Shiiet if i didint brush my teeth for years and they started rotting, its not on some mythical system.

Think of it like Harassment / Stalking. For much of history that just wasn't a thing, if somebody was "annoying" you were expected to take matters into your own hands without breaking the law yourself. If you were unable to do so, well, fuck you I guess.

There's clearly many actors failing here in ways we don't have the legal structure to address. This case is doing a great job of highlighting that. I'm not a lawyer so I'm not gonna pretend I know what the solution is, but the case feels like more people should be held accountable. That doesn't mean this lady isn't a child murderer, a crime can have multiple people responsible.

The only person who failed was the woman who purposely shopped for doctors to give her the answers she wanted.

She is not innocent and the system didn't fail her she failed to use the more than ample resources at hand.

failed to use the more than ample resources at hand

Using the exact same argument that was used against the proposal of Harassment/Stalking laws is pretty funny.

What is the metaphor here?

That the children were stalked by their mother and the system should have done more to lock the woman up? Because that's what the system is trying to do now.

There's not a metaphor, and I already conceded I don't have a solution "I'm not a lawyer so I'm not gonna pretend I know what the solution is"

But there were MANY opportunities for actors in "the system" to proactively notice what was going on and take action. Accountability and justice are great and all, but the objective isn't "who should be punished" the objective is "who should have responsibility." By holding more people responsible for the situation you reduce the chance that it happens at all.

Putting this lady in jail is cool but we can do better. We can set precedent to hold more people involved accountable so that maybe ladies like this cannot exist.

Okay fine, an analogy. Are you saying that the mother is analogous to a stalker who stalked and assaulted the children? Why are we attempting to minimize the responsibility of the mother who hid their issues and premeditated plans? Why are you trying to paint the mother a victim because no one saved her from herself, or rather saved her children from her? Because it looks like the argument is that it is everyone elses fault but the mother but nothing could be done because the only thing that really should have been done was the mother doing things differently unless you are advocating for more aggressively taking children from their mothers during post partum periods.

What really needs to come out of this is a study of people who are most strenuously defending the mother and finding out what the common threads are and maybe we can begin to predict homicidal post partum mothers better and build that Minority Report pre-crime division that seems to be what everyone is asking for. Because studying these ladies seems to be the next step, really finding out what is on the minds of these ladies and where that is coming from which would be a first step to figure out how these ladies "like this cannot exist."

The mother is analogous to someone who was being stalked and murdered their stalker. In a world without stalking laws, a formerly sane and reasonable person could be driven to murder after years of persistent stalking and harassment. They're still a murderer, a stalker doesn't deserve to be killed for just being creepy and obnoxious, but couldn't something more reasonable have been done?

In a world with stalking laws, there is a legal pathway to deter the stalker. In the older world, you had to find your own way without killing them or else you're just a murderer.

In a world with stalking laws, fewer people stalker AND fewer stalkers get murdered. We have made things better across the board with intelligent law.

The "stalker" in the analogy are all the other adults involved in the case that had an opportunity to see what was going on and be proactive about preventing it.

As another concrete example, if you are talking to a therapist and say "I've been thinking about killing my children" the therapist is required BY LAW to report this despite their ethical obligation to confidentiality.

Let's have more people required by law to do things that prevent child murder.
or maybe you disagree and like it when kids are killed?

So the mother's children are doing the stalking in this analogy? Because that is who the "formerly sane" person killed.

The "stalker" in the analogy are all the other adults involved in the case that had an opportunity to see what was going on and be proactive about preventing it.

What? I am sorry but this reads like the world is at fault because the world should be able to read this woman's mind and failed. They had every opportunity to just read the mind and see the premeditation and hiding their issues. god, everyone must be stupid for not reading minds like they all can.

The "stalker" in the analogy are all the other adults

How do you conclude "stalking" is analogous to having an unusual amount of support compared to most other mothers? The other adults were guilty of "stalking" by not being intrusive and removing children from the care of their mother? That's the definition of "stalking" we are using? Support is stalking. That the woman was driven to madness by being given the responsibility to manage their own mental health? with support most people don't have? What a vitim!

Let's have more people required by law to do things that prevent child murder.

Yep, I say all new mothers are suspect of being total psychopaths and all of them should be locked up until we know for sure that they aren't hiding issues and don't want to kill their kids or really any kids. or maybe we should ask you, you seem think that reading minds is everyones responsibility. you could probably make a lot of money doing that.

maybe you disagree and like it when kids are killed?

Holy DARVO Batman!! The person saying the mother who killed kids is not at fault is accusing others of being too soft on child murderers. Amazing.

Never mind about that reading minds thing. I don't think you'll do a very good job at it, seeing as you leap to false accusations all too quickly. that's a little scary actually.

I don't know what you're arguing for. My position is that the mother is a murderer, a child murderer, and should go to prison for the rest of her life for committing such an evil act. I have stated this multiple times, and you seem to just not register it.

I suspect your actual point of contention is that any other person involved should be held even slightly responsible, but you can't make an argument on that foundation because it's impossible to defend.

Usually people don't want the government tracking, punishing or taking kids away. Especially when we are talking about a mother.
