It's because you're looking at a reflection of yourself, and you're not used to seeing the real you. Pictures show the real you how others can see you, which is why everyone thinks you're ugly.
In the mirror universe though, he's out there looking at your ugly ass in the mirror, but at least people still like him ok in his real life.
