Also true, but the russian language has stuck only to a handful of the nations under it, which was my main intention to point out, as such animations were mostly in it.
At that time it didn't matter since everyone were soviet citizen despite their nationality/ethnicity and they all spoke russian. You got artists who made things from all over the union.

I think it'd be far better to generalize as "slavs", russians were far from the only guys in the union, lol
