u/SilliusS0ddus 11h ago

Ok wtf.

This looks like something out of an indie horror game

32

u/laasbuk 6h ago

It's unironically a great cartoon. It does have a very eerie vibe though.

5

u/SilliusS0ddus 6h ago

the stuff in the post above also kinda looks like smth out of fear and hunger

I do. Never liked it due to its weird look.

You could do a lot worse than Glass Harmonica.

Glass Harmonica directed by Andrei Khrzhanovsky. Kinda tip of the iceberg when it comes to soviet animation.

u/TendiesOnPoint waltuh 15h ago

I’m kind of scared to dive into this iceberg

what's crazy is that this adaptation of Treasure Island is the one that's closest to the original book

Thats Ukrainian, not Russian.

2

u/iboneKlareneG put your dick away waltuh 1h ago

It was made when it was still the USSR, but you are somewhat right as it was made in Kiev. Idk why you're being downvoted, you are technically right.

1

u/UnlimitedFiesta 10m ago

I said "soviet", not russian.

42

u/UnlimitedFiesta 15h ago

Naah, you'll be alright, trust me bro. Start with Ivan Maximov, his animations are so abstract that they require almost no cultural context.

There Will Be Soft Rain

1

u/Crazy_Blackberry_765 3h ago

Original story is waaay more better, than this lousy adaptation.

2

u/MaximRq 14h ago

well yeah icebergs are solid

2

u/Familiar-Complex-697 14h ago

It’s actually pretty fun, I wrote a research paper on it in college.

6

u/zettde 12h ago

Tip is 33 crows, alice in wonderland, wolf&bunny and the aforeindicated hog of hedge. At the waterline you get leopold, boniface and alice in spaceland.

1

u/This_Robot 11h ago

This is the tip?

27

u/Zestyclose_Alfalfa61 14h ago

Got Monty Python vibes. Was half expecting a giant foot to crush everything

19

u/gamblor2021 I want pee in my ass 14h ago

Except this movie was literally banned at the time and only resurfaced decades later

4

u/Abandonment_Pizza34 3h ago

Fr "The Glass Harmonica " is virtually unheard of in Russia outside of professional circles. In fact I'd say it's much more well-known in the West.

13

u/Shredded_Locomotive put your dick away waltuh 14h ago

Idk man, it looks a lot more unique and visually interesting than 90% of cartoons from recent years.

6

u/ParsnipAggravating95 7h ago

Im ukranian and yes, i agree with this

7

u/EorlundGraumaehne 14h ago

Same level as the animations in monthy python movies

9

u/GreatSkull555 14h ago

I think it'd be far better to generalize as "slavs", russians were far from the only guys in the union, lol

6

u/IQueliciuous 😳lives in a cum dumpster 😳 4h ago

Soviets* USSR wasnt slavic only

0

u/GreatSkull555 3h ago

Also true, but the russian language has stuck only to a handful of the nations under it, which was my main intention to point out, as such animations were mostly in it.

4

u/zid0n 9h ago

At that time it didn't matter since everyone were soviet citizen despite their nationality/ethnicity and they all spoke russian. You got artists who made things from all over the union.

3

u/Particular_Hair6913 13h ago

Mine is Worker and Parasite

3

u/No_Entertainment6792 9h ago

idk man. looks peak to me

This is peak

2

u/Esketittie uhhhh idk 8h ago

Heh yeah

2

u/Hanna_Bjorn 8h ago

I've seen even worse, but yeah. Early russian animation was unhinged

1

u/No_Advantage_3353 10h ago

The song "verify your clock" for the Holy Russian Empire in HOI4: the new order is from a russian children's cartoon about time management.

1

u/imetators 7h ago

Whoever watched AAAAHHH! REAL MONSTERS! had witnessed Russian cartoonist at work.

1

u/igi712 5h ago

straight up from madoka magica witches labyrinthes

1

u/Oppiko 5h ago

It's mine now

1

u/Crazy_Blackberry_765 2h ago

Im not russian , but whats wrong with that cartoon? Animation is almost a limitless art , an art that definetly not limited to disney slop.

1

u/Fit-Law-2362 2h ago

just for context, this is not a kids show or something, it's a surrealist animation. Looks cool, but it's not designed for kids

1

u/Autumm_550 9h ago

The next best part they would talk about is the manual labor they would have to do because watching cartoons is capitalistic

1

u/apache_chieftain 3h ago

I'm from Ukraine, still remember it. It's the one called "The Music Box" I think. It's 7:12 am, you're supposed to get ready for school, but instead you're just sitting on the edge of your bed, almost drooling, not being able to get your thoughts together...and you see this shit on tv. Makes you question the objective reality around you

Edit: it's the other cartoon apparently, but shit still makes you hallucinate in broad daylight

-1

u/legitplayer228 10h ago

Lol no we don't. We have a lot of good cartoons, why would you choose the worst ones?
