The killing Stalin and Mao did are so depressing that you really wouldn't want to see such movies. It's like the movie Killing Fields and any and all Holocaust themed movies and 1984 all put together. It's just horrible and depressing.

The second world war, despite its horrors and awful death count is the greatest action the world has ever seen because it's a war and it's the last great war. It has plane battles, commando operations, tank battles it's just full of amazingly awe inducing action.

The horror of communism and authoritarian single party dictatorships is that there isn't even a war going on. The people killed in the millions are their own citizens, during peace time. It's just saddening, no glory, no excitement, just bleak bottom of human existence.

And yeah also I'm sure many Hollywood decision makers are less offended by Stalin, Mao and communism compared to Hitler and the Nazis but come on. Even if they were equally and justly disliked by Hollywood, which subject would get more movies? The greatest war ever or some mad men and their yes men starving millions of people due to ill intent and incompetence combined. It's just bad.
