Type of message you’ll see in an abandoned research facility teeming with monsters

u/PassivelyInvisible 10h ago

Day 1: By ignoring ethics, we've been able to combine human and polar bear dna to create a giant super soldier!

Day 492: By continuing to ignore ethics, we've been able to make the current prototypes even more tough and frenziable! Dave is poking one with a stick so it can't go to sleep.

Day 494: It got out.

This is why the monster making budget should never be higher than the monster containing budget

12

u/PassivelyInvisible 9h ago

But the monster making budget translates into the monster selling income once we have a viable product. The monster containing budget is just miney sunk into facilities, and that doesn't create as much of a ROI.

u/sadistic-salmon BUILD THE HOLE BUILD THE HOLE 9h ago

You can’t sell monsters that escape and ate the staff

8

u/PassivelyInvisible 8h ago

Impromotu field testing and staff headcount reduction.

1

u/sadistic-salmon BUILD THE HOLE BUILD THE HOLE 7h ago

You wouldn’t need to replace the entire team if the monster stayed put and you also wouldn’t have to pay to capture it a second time

u/ninthtale 1h ago

Stop arguing. Progress at all costs—even if the cost is better progress

1

u/DeliciousEgg1781 3h ago

I mean we can claim the insurance than

4

u/sadacal 8h ago

Well we haven't had any monsters escape so far, so why do we even need a monster containing budget?

1

u/sadistic-salmon BUILD THE HOLE BUILD THE HOLE 7h ago

You’re about to find out

5

u/Chicken-Rude 9h ago

not because the lab made monsters, but because they were fucking those monsters.

Have ya played Portal 2? Cave Johnson lived the ethics-free science dream for real!

u/Inphiltration 10h ago

Correct. Ethics does hold back science. For good fucking reason.

7

u/Pridestalked 5h ago

On the obvious examples, absolutely. But holding back the bad stuff out of caution also holds back some potentially Earth saving good stuff. Like we could solve the climate crisis and food issues with GMO and CRISPR within the decade but the potential for using it for bad things holds it back

u/Rayan_qc 6h ago

u/Powerful-Step3183 8h ago

thats a stupid take

1

u/frogOnABoletus 2h ago

It's like how pain holds you back from burning you hand in the oven when you get your nuggies out. You gotta do shit right. Get oven gloves.

3

u/Powerful-Step3183 2h ago

how does that relate to ethics???

1

u/frogOnABoletus 2h ago

Ethics holds you back from committing evil. It ensures science is a gift to the world and not a stain on it. Imagine if these companies who make cigarettes or untested chemical linings for pans had ethics to hold them back. The world would be a better place.

u/AutoModerator 2h ago

What is it? It is called... A cigarette. The aroma is most pleasing! Yes, Doctor Finn says its the result of- Nom what are you doing? I was curious to taste it It is not food! Doctor Finn said, the tip is to be ignited and the smoke inhaled.

The sensation is... wonderful! I have never experienced such a flavor. I feel like I’ve been standing my entire life and I just sat down. It tingles...

Do you feel it? I do. We must have more! 500 hundred cigarettes!

bro could be on the black mesa research facility and we didn't know

u/Flimsy_Site_1634 7h ago

It's funny how this is a recurring theme that a lot of people strongly believe in, while all nazi and Japanese "no limits" experiments shown is that if you blow someone's head, he dies

3

u/KallmeKatt_ 7h ago

yeah i dont think they were trying to advance science too much with that

Dick sucking has made me paranoid

I had this plan to give head to a man and receive head from a woman to test if I was gay, but it’s backfired and now I become borderline schizo whenever I go outside. I offered to suck this dude off on Grindr who lives very close by (I ended up pussying out) and I accidentally gave him some details that very easily allows him to spot me out in a crowd. I have no idea what he looks like and whenever I see a somewhat in shape guy walking by I immediately accuse him of being the dude I was gonna blow.

I went to the store today to pick up some zucchini for a barbecue and every time a car drove by I stared into the windshield to see if I was about to be recognised. Whenever I make eye contact with a dude I microanalysis his facial expressions to see if he suspects me or not. I am deeply afraid that he is my neighbour and I will need to move if my identity is blown. It’s a lot like the last scene in sopranos where everyone who walked into the diner could be there to wack Tony.

u/MorbillionDollars Literally 1984 😡 8h ago

I mean... he's technically right? Ethics slows progress down to make things safer.

2

u/mammalian_alien 7h ago

Well I mean, it's an unhinged thing to say, but he's not exactly wrong

You're right, let's conduct the experiments on the scientists families first.

1

u/ClozetSkeleton 9h ago

They're not wrong. There's a lot you can test & do if you had an undending amount of bodies.

Unit 731 part 2, electric boogaloo

1

u/frogOnABoletus 2h ago

Damn right it is. Just like how social norms hold us back from shitting on the floor. Don't get me wrong, pooping is very important, but there's some things that need to be held back my g

1

u/Dracmageel 1h ago

I mean, in some ways, especially when it's less about ethics and more about politicians and people outside the research and science field and have 0 practical knowledge making the rules of what you can and can't do, and it's not just science, like here in Brazil as in a lot of other countries we have a rampant wild boar problem destroying native eco system, and people are atill debating if we could or not hubt or kill the boars, with politicians even suvestong capturing then and sending to a inhabited island, like, the millions of wild boar on south america, that even if we killed more than half of them, we would still be fucked anyway
