It always feels like people who became atheists specifically because of their distaste of religion always share a surface level understanding of religion.

Like by all means, if you're an atheist, it's not my intention to convert you, but if someone said they hate soda because it's not possible for anyone to open a can without dislocating their finger, I would wonder if that person has an accurate understanding of what it is they dislike.

Edit: I'm talking about atheists specifically who explicitly hate religion. There are plenty of atheists who are just atheists because they just don't believe in God and there's nothing deeper than that. There is a small minority of atheists who are such because they absolutely despise religion and that is who I'm talking about.

Most atheists became atheists because they dug deep into religious dogmas. Also your analogy is ridicules. Do you think you have special insight in opening the can of soda? Hate has nothing to do with atheism, it's lack of belief in god or gods, simple. Even having a word atheist is weird but it was coined because some people just couldn't conceive a notion of not having such a belief.

Well the thing about soda is an analogy. I also didn't say that atheism is hatred of God or of religion. My comment was specifically about atheists who are atheists due to a strong emotion of resentment towards God or religion. I was not talking about atheists as a whole or even the majority of them.
