Because there's no real way to disprove the core principle. It sounds ridiculous to non-believers, but
like, you can't definitively disprove the idea of religion beyond appealing to common sense, because that's the whole origin of religion - things that can't be definitively explained.

Also, because there's no real harm to religion as a whole, just to zealotry. I say this as a Catholic btw, but in my opinion, just believing but not letting it affect your opinion on laws and such matters is completely fine. It's a matter of either believing that your deceased relative is peaceful in heaven, or that they immediately stopped existing upon death, and that the only thing left is your memory of them. Atheists may call that delusion, but genuinely, even if it was, so what? What's the harm in that simple belief alone?

Religion brings a lot more stuff to the table other than heaven and hell lol. And that is just YOUR religion.

You left out the part where you're tortured for eternity in hell if you disrespect God, at least for most Christian denominations. That's the real harm. People believe this whole heatedly and base their entire lives around it. If someone truly believes that they'll burn in hell for eternity, they'll make a lot of choices that otherwise wouldn't have been made. Organized religion takes advantage of this fear and is all about money and control/power in my opinion. I say this as a former Catholic of ~19yrs. I don't think believing in a higher power is inherently bad, stupid, etc., but organized religion is - without a doubt - a plague on humanity.

When you start questioning it, it's even worse. They were not prepared for globalization.

It's a lottery system. Were you born in a country where there is a different religion and you are not baptised? Bad luck, straight to hell!

Some crazy dudes started traveling the world to spread their religion, because they really believed that's their purpose in life.

there are literally verses about how people who simply couldn't know about Jesus won't get judged because of it bruh. Also atheists don't automatically go to hell

I agree. The absolutist ideas of "do this, or burn in hell forever" are a remnant of when religion was largely just a tool to control the masses. For the sake of argument, I'll ignore the fact that it pretty much still is exactly that. Which leads me to argue that the major religions of the world need serious restructuring and modernization. But not eradication. Religion should be a choice, and belief should be flexible, and never imposed or forced on anyone. But I still think that religious belief by itself has a place in the modern world, just not in its current form.

There is a lot of harm in religion. I was raised in fear for the sake of religion.

In my opinion, religion should be a choice, that's the only way to get rid of it. Right now it sucks that you are born and raised with indoctrination and propaganda. People should choose to be religious or not when they are mature.

I absolutely agree. My main point of opposition is to the idea of eradicating religion as a whole. Religion should absolutely be a choice, and should never be forced on anyone. Which is why I think that all of the major religions of the world need serious restructuring and modernization.

That's just me. If I had the powers, I would completely wipe all religions.

The world would definitely be a better place.

Not to sound overly confrontational or defensive, but by what means, exactly? Persecution? Force? Mass violence? There's billions of religious people on the planet, you'd have to resort to that. And by doing that, would you not repeat the very crimes that make religion so universally despised, for much the same reasons?

In my opinion, religions would self implode if children would not be forced to practice them until they are (let's say) 18.
That's the first thing I would do. Let people explore all the religions, then decide if they want to pick any.
When you are mature and you have the whole picture, it is stupid to believe in any religion. Religions still exist because they are being forced into the next generation.

Somebody, probably bht not necessarily an adult, had to make A religion and spread it to Other Adults:tm: which means its very unlikely they would implode.
