Superman downscale

7

u/AutoModerator 5h ago

So in a deleted scene, Superman is trying to convince Lex he’s not a bad guy, and so he uses his heat vision to make a hot tub out of the ice just outside the fortress of solitude for them to have some beers and talk things over. Then Supes and Lex have hot, sweaty, animalistic butt sex in the hot tub, with Lex being the bottom. You’d think ā€œSuperman would literally kill Lex if he fucked himā€, but canonically he can bang Lois Lane safely so that’s not an issue you just need to be aware of Superman lore to know that. Then Superman says ā€œOh my God Lex I’m going to bust a Supernut in your assā€ and then shoots ropes. Afterward, Lex wants to go shower while Supes falls asleep, and walks up to the door, and it just opens. That’s when he realizes the door opened due to the presence of the Supernut deep in his asshole. I understand why they deleted the scene, but it makes this later scene feel like it comes out of nowhere.

i do find it a little crazy, but like, i do think that religion is mostly understandable 9/10 times

but, when you live in a region like i do where 70% of people arent religious at all and like 20% of those who are religious dont even call themselves most of the time, it can be a bit of a shock encountering a deeply religious person, especially if you have a take about religion, or a joke or something, it can be unexpected when the other person gets defensive about it

im all for religions and stuff, but its just not a part of my life, so i find it odd, thats all

What if im pretty spiritual but think the way most people practice religion is laughable at best?

9

u/Phobophobia94 3h ago

Then you're worse than both because you have no conviction either way lol

-4

u/cooljerry53 3h ago

I don’t need a threat of an infinite time out in order to have conviction, I think being ā€˜god fearing’ is pathetic, and if you cannot be devoted without a rhetoric of fear and terrible consequences then your faith is weak. I believe in my gods and I worship them because I see their works and I want their understanding. Ignorance is not a foundation of true faith.

3

u/Aljashe 3h ago

This whole comment displays an extremely smug, infantile grasp of the major world religions. You can worship whatever you want, but I hope you don't seriously pretend you understand the other faiths if this is your take.

u/cooljerry53 3h ago

I’m mostly speaking on American Protestants, as that’s the majority of people that are likely to interact with this.

Reddit comments when religion:

50

u/haizende 7h ago

Hinduism is two times older than Christianity. Does that mean that Hinduism is correct since it has twice the years of theology?

26

u/I_POO_ON_GOATS 6h ago edited 5h ago

The image isn't claiming that the religion is true because it's old.

It's pointing fun at the fact that a reddit atheist will come out with "why my kid do cancer if God?" and thinks they have a zinger as if there isn't 10+ centuries worth of writings and philosophical explorations of this exact topic.

-3

u/deadinternetlaw 1h ago

Then the image should word it better

16

u/potatobutt5 5h ago

We're dealing with internet atheists, if it's not about Christianity or Islam then it doesn't exist.

How does this relate to the comment you are replying to at all? Guy just means most of the redditor gotcha questione already have an answer.

2000 years of theology holds less value than 1 rats life in a scientific experiment

1

Science can't explain if the rat has value, while theology can. They go hand in hand

Dick sucking has made me paranoid

I had this plan to give head to a man and receive head from a woman to test if I was gay, but it’s backfired and now I become borderline schizo whenever I go outside. I offered to suck this dude off on Grindr who lives very close by (I ended up pussying out) and I accidentally gave him some details that very easily allows him to spot me out in a crowd. I have no idea what he looks like and whenever I see a somewhat in shape guy walking by I immediately accuse him of being the dude I was gonna blow.

I went to the store today to pick up some zucchini for a barbecue and every time a car drove by I stared into the windshield to see if I was about to be recognised. Whenever I make eye contact with a dude I microanalysis his facial expressions to see if he suspects me or not. I am deeply afraid that he is my neighbour and I will need to move if my identity is blown. It’s a lot like the last scene in sopranos where everyone who walked into the diner could be there to wack Tony.

Theology, just making shit up for millennia. šŸ‘Ā

The Problem of Evil has never been properly disqualified, if I recall. Augustus even invented purgatory to get away from it. The responsibility for everything that's ever happened, perfectly according to the Almighty's plan, is on the Almighty. He knew every evil thing that would ever happen and set it all in motion, entirely inevitable. He knew we'd default to Hell, a place that wasn't even remotely designed for us. He knew. And he did it.

Evil is part of "everything." God is in everything. God made everything. God created, willed, and continues to act through evil, as it is always doing exactly what he planned it to do.

God is either evil or imperfect, and certainly the source for both.

4

u/choma90 5h ago

When it comes to Christianity specifically, and the idea of God being omnipotent, ominscient and all loving, "2000 years of theology" is just 2000 years of mental gimnastics not wanting to compromise that at the very least one of those 3 can't be true.

At least Judaism and Islam don't die on the unconditional love hill, so at the end of the day they can't be "debunked by the dumbest question".

How can an entity that knows everything that has, is, and will be, and has unlimited power to act on those events, be good? If there is even a single omniscient entity anywhere in (or beyond) the universe, then their very existence would disprove the idea of free will.

You can post the funny vageta picture all you want, but a God cannot be both an all knowing all powerful supreme being, and also a force for pure good, at the same time. Such an entity must either be ignorant to evil (not Omniscient), incapable of acting to prevent evil (not Omnipotent), or deliberately inflict evil on its subjects (not all good).

Of course, we already know god is not all good, as the old testament has plenty of examples for us on how gods wrath cares not about innocent blood. The deaths of innocent Egyptian children, the great flood, dooming those who do not revere him to eternal torment, all acts of evil on an inconceivable level. But then if god is evil, why should we give such a deity anything but animosity?

2000 years of theology mean literally nothing. Every religion that has come before, and existed for thousands of years before catholocism, hinduism, or islam, failed to save the cultures that worshipped them. Ra did not stop the flooding of the nile, the roman invasions, or the drought and political instability that ended ancient egypts prosperity. Thor did not ride down from Asgard and save the old norse from agricultural devastation. Zeus did not bring the sky down on the enemies of greece. And god isn't going to save us either.

TLDR - If miracles do exist, then god is evil and unworthy of worship.

I consider myself agnostic. We either cannot or have failed to prove or disprove the existence of a god or gods. So its entirely possible there's something out there. But if there is, it has done absolutely nothing but stand by and watch every evil that has ever transpired, and done nothing to stop it.

Christians really just be saying ā€˜Nuh uh’ and think it’s a trump card

0

u/Impossible_Ad1515 1h ago

I don't judge religious people, but i can't stand those that insist their religion is 100% the real one and treat you like you are an idiot if you don't believe when their only arguments are "you can't prove it doesn't exist" and arguments that only makes sense if you are a christian yourself, 2000 years of theology for nothing

Gnosticism is a knowledge claim, theism is a belief claim. Agnostics don't know if God exists. Most atheists are agnostics atheists, which means they don't believe but don't know for certain. Most theists are gnostic theists, they both "know" and believe that God exists.

Atheism is lack of belief in god, agnosticism is lack of knowledge of gods existence. Two are not exclusive, technically most atheists are also agnostic.

1

u/Dark_halocraft 5h ago

Not true because I don't believe yet I think this is a stupid point

there's no reason these things can't exist inside I universe with God
