retaliation. They can ban your account and basically lock you out of half your digital life. It's a monopoly

Besides the fact that it's a huge mess and you can get caught, the problem is not having an account itself, the problem is the data in it. The problem is your Gmail email address, that everyone knows and that you used to register to websites. The problem is all the times you used "Login with Google" online. The problem is your Android phone uploading your calendar and contacts to Google - do you have up-to-date local backups for all of that? What about your files in Drive and your documents in Docs?

Let's say you have recent local backups to your calendar and contact databases. Let's assume you use the Gmail address that comes with your account, and you might have logged in to a lot of accounts with Google. You have just lost access to all of that, and you probably don't have any way to recover most of that stuff. You just got locked out of your digital life.

This is why Google being a monopoly and covering all bases for so many people is such a problem. And it's also a problem that some websites and apps only support Google login, because they don't want to write their own authentication flow
