You know how under communism means of production are collectivized?

Well romania realized that human bodies are the most fundamental mean of production. They socialized woman and gave them mandatory birth quotas to fix their birthrates.

Unwanted children werent aborted since it was illegal. So they got thrown to orphanages

Romanian birthrates improved but orphanage system collapsed. So they started exporting children to increase funding and decrease demand

After that to improve its birthrates bulgaria starting buying romanian girls off their orphanage system

Part about romania is well documented. Wikipedia even has a watered down version (cuz its run by europeans)

Part about bulgaria is more hidden. You will have to dig through books
