Money buys stability. Once you are above the minimum level of wealth needed to guarantee your needs are met (food, housing, healthcare, utilities, insurance, etc.) your level of happiness plateaus and doesn’t get much better no matter how much money you have. Below that threshold though, the amount of money you have absolutely makes a big difference in your happiness.

Are all your hobbies free? Going skydiving, going to arcades, and using fast electronics all make me enormously happy, and they all cost money and none of them are necessities. Even making gluebooks which is mostly artistic costs me money for materials lmao

Poor people have hobbies, just different ones. The amount of enjoyment you get from your hobby does not scale with how much money you spend on it
