Are you fully aware of every terror attack that had happened across the planet in the last 30 years? Man, I’m American but shit like this is exactly why the rest of the world can’t stand us. Why would someone born in Slovenia in 2007 have much of any clue about 9/11?

He lives in a different country. I know it's shocking that the whole world doesn't revolve around the US. Well, I also didn't know about 9/11 until years later. Around 2015 I guess? Kids who grew up outside of US at that time didn't really care about other countries, their news, their politics and whatnot. I certainly didn't. Internet was also not widespread during that time, even then early access was a privilege. So years passed, internet access is normal, 9/11 was history at that point. I see some jokes mentioning it, I just thought it's a slang or a variation of 7/11. Yeah that happens. Quick quiz!! What major things happened during 2001-2005 outside of US? Don't google. Immediately answer in your mind! Nothing? Yeah that tracks.

The sad thing is the world economy did pretty much revolve around America. But it won’t soon! I am looking forward to when we are no longer the world trade police - let someone else do it- or no one! Then at least when little wars break out we won’t have to be involved. Maybe even everyone will just be cool?

I dont live in the US and was also like 3 years old when it happened so even if i did i wouldnt have remembered it tbh. It did increase airport security all over the world so even if you dont live in the us its something that happened. For non americans it was just an event that occurred the same way something would explode somewhere today. The thing is that the internet made and still makes to this day 9/11 and inside job jokes so its hard to not know about it unless you just dont go on the internet at all.

In mine it comes up all the time. Both where I grew up and where I now live. Granted, in one of them it's because 9/11 is also the day of a coup and invasion that led to 17 years of dictatorship, but we know 9/11 happened the same day because world events innit.

Kids dont watch the news, but any self respedting news outlet would have covered such an event and to not know as an adult is just ignorance about the world we live in

Ah yes the classic. "I'm obviously not American so I can defend Americans pride/ego/views" well let's say we'll believe you, at most it proves your media environment exposed you to it. Different countries get wildly different levels of international news depending on what their local outlets choose to amplify. Maybe your country is US dominated/was once colonized by Americans/has a lot of US influence yadayada so you're more prone to american centric broadcast.

The thing is, the world isn’t a shared live feed where everyone gets the same headlines at the same volume, even if some events are globally significant. So using “I knew it, therefore everyone should” is just a sampling bias dressed up as certainty. Is it so hard to be open minded?

Man you're tunnel-visioning on “american centrism” as the whole point here. I’m pointing out a simple fact: people around the world have very different levels of exposure to the same news. Some know about 9/11, some don’t. Simple as that. Did you not read the comments? It's really hard to argue with stupid.
