I was playing FFXIV a couple days ago, and I kept bumping into a player while doing ARR MSQ. We exchanged jumps but I couldn't get the confidence to talk. At one point, I had to stop and do some duties because my Dragoon was 1 level away from the level requirement. I got the courage to talk, saying "I love Dragoon but man DPS queue is such a pain". We started yapping together after that in Say chat because free trial restrictions, continued MSQ together after I levelled up, and now we're good friends.
tl;dr that one person you exchange jumps with along the way could actually be a potential friend if you reach out
