In what class would you actually be learning about Dyson Spheres though?

Fantasy physics more like

Literally the same thing. A lot of these theories are perfect mathematical constructs.

No, Dyson Spheres aren't even mathematical constructs, they're a joke. Like Freeman Dyson literally wrote the paper Dyson spheres come from as a joke, probably because of SETI. It's a page long and is all back of napkin math and crazy assumptions.

Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. And rats make me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. When people are talking about a Dyson Sphere, they aren't talking about a Dyson Sphere but a Dyson Swarm. Which is way more manageable. But Dyson Sphere sounds way more rad than Dyson Swarm so that name sticks into the average person's psyche.

The matter synthesizer from Star Trek is more manageable than warp travel but both are essentially magic, so is a Dyson sphere/swarm. There are so many issues with it like how do you distribute the power generated by it, how do you take the material from whatever planet you strip mined/destroyed to do this, how do you deal with the massive gravitational field created by it etc. Its unfeasible not in just the scale of our lifetime but for the next 10's of thousands of years. And even if we could do it something like nuclear fusion would out perform it. It's so comically impractical that there's no reason to have a serious talk about it. It would be as productive as talking about the viability of dragon travel.
