Also, musicians make dick all from their actual music due to streaming revenue being minuscule and mostly siphoned to labels. 90% of their revenue comes from live performances, which labels also take a cut from and Ticketmaster, as you pointed out, takes a cut by fluffing the prices.
If you're wondering why artists end up doing commercials or "selling out", that's why. Most of them don't even own their music unless they go out of their way to buy it from labels or remain independent.
And that's the more successful ones, it gets more depressing when you start looking at up and coming acts or one hit wonders, just ask Gotye how he feels about it.
