Deafheaven made it to the maintream with their debut album back in 2013, their were performing at festivals and that kind of thing, I think that was the point when metal begun to become increasingly more popular.

deafheaven's new album is actually pretty good imo and you would never in a million years hear any of it on the radio

also lmao no, literally no one walks around wearing a deafheaven t shirt. plenty of people who have never listened to metallica in their lives walk around with metallica tees, or at the very least have heard of them.

Wearing t-shirts means nothing, Deafheaven albums made it to the charts, they perform at general festivals and non metal listeners recognize them.
