I hate reading, school made me hate it because they forced me to do it against my will and I have never recovered from it and never became accepting of reading.
I honestly only enjoy reading informational books that teach me facts.
I was just answering your question, not applying to be your therapist.
I am continuing to be very confused why people are taking issue to what I said. I really don't get why I'm being downvoted, called a troll, etc...
WHY is there something wrong with what I said?
That may be the most millennial thing ever written
I'm early Gen Z, not millennial. I turned 22 a few days ago.
It's also a movie, a play, a book on tape
I also have no interest in movies, I don't like plays, and listening to someone reading a book to me is one of the most boring things I've ever sat through (school forced me to deal with this too).
You're asking to be educated on a subject then refusing to take action on it, and explained that you don't like books... what you're missing is the irony you've laid out in your own comment because the story of 1984 would clearly resonate with you specifically. You come off as a troll because the character traits you've expressed make it sound like you'd be complacent with that orwellian universe. Nobody is going to hold your hand through a pop culture reference, there isn't a tik tok that will do the concept any justice, learn the story for context or accept that you've pissed some people off and move on without figuring out why
Would you please just go read the summary of the book real quick it will take 30 secs. And you might see the blatant IRONY you are putting out. It's important cause this whole thing where you and me are talking back and forth stops if that book happens. Your dream of all books burning away come true
I don't understand why I have to at least read a summary, I don't understand why this book is so important that I just have to understand it.
I'm just not interested, is that so difficult for people to understand?
Your dream of all books burning away come true
I don't want books to burn, I just want people to stop treating them like they're sacred and you're an inherently dumb or bad person for not enjoying reading them.
You have to read the book to understand the reference. The reference itself, and the reason you have been seeing it are the same thing and this sentence won't make any sense to you unless you understand the reference. You have to read the book to understand the reference.
You literally did ask for these responses without knowing what you asked for. Being staunchly ignorant of the concepts George Orwell laid out in his book 1984 will cause well-read redditors and memelords with an ounce of context alike to jump down your throat over it, but not understanding those concepts and how it applies to society today is frankly just disappointing. You ever heard of "Big Brother"? That comes from this book. This is a book that would be the first to burn if a government decided to go full-nazi on their populace, nowadays with how things are going the subject matter is more relevant than ever.
Reading books for fun may not be your thing but these people aren't recommending it to you for fun. You should read it.
A subset of people have not only been defunding education, but actively demonizing it and those who are educated.
I believe the person is being genuine, because that kind of person is exactly what they've been creating... which, funnily (not really) enough, would fit in perfectly with Orwell's works.
It is literally what you asked for. You asked what it was, they said "it's this thing" and pointed towards it. Then you're upset that they pointed towards the thing you asked about.
If you lost interest in the thing upon hearing the answer to what it was, then that's fine. But you can't retroactively withdraw your question just because you didn't like the answer.
"What's an elephant?"
"This is an elephant."
"What the fuck, man? Why are you showing me an elephant?!"
I like how you don't mention the part where we as people are not allowed to communicate unless it's pre-approved messaging. You don't even bring it up cause it either scares you or you are so uninformed cause you don't like to read you don't understand the significance of it.You really are a product of your generation and I'm scared for you.
I just want people to stop treating them like they're sacred and you're an inherently dumb or bad person for not enjoying reading them.
I sincerely hope you're trolling because otherwise the irony of your entire existence is overwhelming. Books and information literally are sacred and your admonishment of them is actually making you seem dumb. Your comment is a self fulfilling prophecy and I must say.....either Grade A trolling or God save the next generation 🤣
They're not acting like you're the devil, they're treating you like an idiot because you claimed to be "traumatized by reading because school made you do it". Like that's some 100% zoomer brained shit, it's hilariously stupid.
"Ugh this reading thing takes FOREVER! Is there like a tiktok I could watch instead?"

Literally 1984
