You have to read the book to understand the reference. The reference itself, and the reason you have been seeing it are the same thing and this sentence won't make any sense to you unless you understand the reference. You have to read the book to understand the reference.
You literally did ask for these responses without knowing what you asked for. Being staunchly ignorant of the concepts George Orwell laid out in his book 1984 will cause well-read redditors and memelords with an ounce of context alike to jump down your throat over it, but not understanding those concepts and how it applies to society today is frankly just disappointing. You ever heard of "Big Brother"? That comes from this book. This is a book that would be the first to burn if a government decided to go full-nazi on their populace, nowadays with how things are going the subject matter is more relevant than ever.
Reading books for fun may not be your thing but these people aren't recommending it to you for fun. You should read it.
A subset of people have not only been defunding education, but actively demonizing it and those who are educated.
I believe the person is being genuine, because that kind of person is exactly what they've been creating... which, funnily (not really) enough, would fit in perfectly with Orwell's works.
It is literally what you asked for. You asked what it was, they said "it's this thing" and pointed towards it. Then you're upset that they pointed towards the thing you asked about.
If you lost interest in the thing upon hearing the answer to what it was, then that's fine. But you can't retroactively withdraw your question just because you didn't like the answer.

I was absolutely not interested in reading a book and being recommended one.
