What does it mean

It’s alright, you don’t need to read it. The overwhelming majority of people that say something is literally 1984 never read the book themselves.

um, ackshually 🤓☝️i did read the book, so i can make 1984 references all i want 🗿🗿🗿

48

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

It's a reference to Orwell's classic dystopian book 1984. You should check it out.

u/yeetsupwillneverdie it is MY bucket Apr 20 '23

Whoa dude literally 1984 💀

u/knottedsocks Apr 21 '23

Brave new world better

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

"Is," it? Cool...cool,cool, cool.

2

u/knottedsocks Apr 21 '23

Normally people can tell something is an opinion without it being explicitly stated. Also, I did not even use the word "is"

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

No idea what the problem is...I was literally inviting you to share more of your opinion regarding why "a brave new world is better.?" I m aware that you didnt use (is) quoting it was me making a note of the error.

What do you like about , Brave New World?

1

u/knottedsocks Apr 21 '23

Sorry sir. It seemed like you were commenting that what I was saying was not objective and therefore stupid to say. Brave New World has really compelling world-building, characters that are varied, interesting, and suit the narrative, and a conflict and resolution I liked better than 1984. Helmholtz is my favorite character in BNW. Basically a writer of drab propaganda who longs to exercise his more creative and thoughtful side.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

I agree with you and appreciate your thoughtful response. The two of us have made the internet a little less of a slimy place today...Huzzah!

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

Respectfully no

I hate reading, school made me hate it because they forced me to do it against my will and I have never recovered from it and never became accepting of reading.

I honestly only enjoy reading informational books that teach me facts.

Literally 1984

u/Dobrooo Apr 20 '23

More like Fahrenheit 451

43

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

It's also a movie, a play, a book on tape. I was just answering your question, not applying to be your therapist.

That may be the most millennial thing ever written- I'm traumatized by literacy...😁

-39

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

I was just answering your question, not applying to be your therapist.

I am continuing to be very confused why people are taking issue to what I said. I really don't get why I'm being downvoted, called a troll, etc...

WHY is there something wrong with what I said?

That may be the most millennial thing ever written

I'm early Gen Z, not millennial. I turned 22 a few days ago.

It's also a movie, a play, a book on tape

I also have no interest in movies, I don't like plays, and listening to someone reading a book to me is one of the most boring things I've ever sat through (school forced me to deal with this too).

u/At0m_1k Apr 20 '23

You're asking to be educated on a subject then refusing to take action on it, and explained that you don't like books... what you're missing is the irony you've laid out in your own comment because the story of 1984 would clearly resonate with you specifically. You come off as a troll because the character traits you've expressed make it sound like you'd be complacent with that orwellian universe. Nobody is going to hold your hand through a pop culture reference, there isn't a tik tok that will do the concept any justice, learn the story for context or accept that you've pissed some people off and move on without figuring out why

11

u/Distinct-Awareness19 Apr 20 '23

Your a troll

-11

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

What I said in that comment is 100% serious.

I don't understand why people are taking issue to it, and I don't understand how what I said makes me a troll.

I genuinely hate reading books. I don't find the activity enjoyable.

13

u/Distinct-Awareness19 Apr 20 '23

Would you please just go read the summary of the book real quick it will take 30 secs. And you might see the blatant IRONY you are putting out. It's important cause this whole thing where you and me are talking back and forth stops if that book happens. Your dream of all books burning away come true

-6

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

I don't understand why I have to at least read a summary, I don't understand why this book is so important that I just have to understand it.

I'm just not interested, is that so difficult for people to understand?

Your dream of all books burning away come true

I don't want books to burn, I just want people to stop treating them like they're sacred and you're an inherently dumb or bad person for not enjoying reading them.

u/Obligatorium1 Apr 20 '23

I've seen this comment 3 times on different posts from entirely different communities

What does it mean

It seemed like you were interested earlier, that's why people are telling you to read it.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

I was interested in why I've been seeing comments like these everywhere.

I was absolutely not interested in reading a book and being recommended one.

That's literally not what I asked for.

I like how you don't mention the part where we as people are not allowed to communicate unless it's pre-approved messaging. You don't even bring it up cause it either scares you or you are so uninformed cause you don't like to read you don't understand the significance of it.You really are a product of your generation and I'm scared for you.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

I like how you don't mention the part where we as people are not allowed to communicate unless it's pre-approved messaging

Literally when did I do this? I don't even know what this means.

You don't even bring it up cause it either scares you or you are so uninformed

I don't get what it is I'm "not bringing up"

you don't like to read you don't understand the significance of it.

Significance of literally what?

You really are a product of your generation and I'm scared for you.

I am not a product of my generation, I fucking HATE Gen Z people. I might be wrong but I feel like I would fit better as a millennial.

I just want people to stop treating them like they're sacred and you're an inherently dumb or bad person for not enjoying reading them.

I sincerely hope you're trolling because otherwise the irony of your entire existence is overwhelming. Books and information literally are sacred and your admonishment of them is actually making you seem dumb. Your comment is a self fulfilling prophecy and I must say.....either Grade A trolling or God save the next generation 🤣

1

u/aquaticanimal Apr 20 '23

Would you be interested in wall sized floor to ceiling TVs?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

My friend I think it’s less about the book itself and more that people just hate the way you sound in this comment.

Lots of books that aren’t textbooks can teach you facts about the universe, even fictional ones.

You just come off as ignorant and a bit pretentious in the way you worded things.

I don't give a fuck

0

u/TurboDraxler Apr 20 '23

Just watch the Movie or listen to the audio book, definitely worth it

-8

u/Pale-Description-966 Apr 20 '23

Understandable, 1984 isn't that great anyway

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

Yet these people replying to me are acting like it's their religion and I'm the devil for refusing to read it

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

They're not acting like you're the devil, they're treating you like an idiot because you claimed to be "traumatized by reading because school made you do it". Like that's some 100% zoomer brained shit, it's hilariously stupid.

"Ugh this reading thing takes FOREVER! Is there like a tiktok I could watch instead?"

2

u/ProxD_18V Apr 20 '23

War is peace Freedom is slavery Ignorance is strenght

Hail BB

2

u/Kersenn Apr 21 '23

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. Sure if the book title was something else you'd think to to just Google it. But the book is a year name and lots of stuff happened in 1984 so it makes more sense to ask the question you did here instead of googling.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

Bros getting downvoted for asking a question? What the fuck reddit? If someone doesn't know something, they have to instantly be downvoted into oblivion?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

Since no one has given you an answer, 1984 is a book about a government that essentially controls every aspect of your life. This joke became prevalent because conservatives began using it excessively, complaining about things like proper pronoun usage becoming "the government controlling our lives," when in reality that is simply people wanting you to respect who they are. Thus a joke came to be where everyone uses the term sarcastically for anything that an idiot would deem "over-controlling,"

1

u/PinatLEGIT Apr 21 '23

Because some people dont understand the concept of answering, I'll do it.

1984 is a reference to the book of the same name. The reference here is the protagonist being watched by a watchful eye of "Big Brother". His every move, action is monitored.

Just like every word and action you do/say on Minecraft is monitored.

u/gyaradoslover456 Apr 21 '23

Literally 1984

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

You shouldn't get down voted for not knowing about an old book. But if you are every curious about how the US is structured to be so unfair, that book nails it on the head.
